Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

“Social Security Applauds Passage of Legislation Providing Historic Tax Relief for Seniors” does not tell me “How Much?” I’ll save in Taxes… There should be a brief explanation on how we will save taxes or as a minimum a link….

This post is misleading and incomplete. It feels like an ad buy for a political party. I always respected the SSA for being apolitical and just about business. This sounds like a promotional ad pitch….sad what we have become.

I woke up to an email this morning from social security celebrating the passage of a bill that will kick me and 12 MILLION Americans off of health insurance. I have never in my life recieved political emails like that from social security before. Are they running propaganda for the president now? I am so unbelievably disgusted. How DARE you. The office of social securty should not be sending political propaganda to their mailing lists, I cannot believe that this doesn’t go without saying. I legitimately thought it was some sick joke someone was playing on me for a second

Is there a restriction on seniors who make more outside social security…in other words a cap on total income to qualify?

If you are giving information, give full explanation. Don’t make a statement and then leave it to seniors to have to research to find specifics. This is Trumps typical lying, manipulative manner of treating the uneducated population that voted for him.

      Hi Joyce,

There are a few commenters who give more details than I am about to give you.

But I will say that this bill is much more detrimental than they present it to be.

If you rely on Medicare or Medicaid, millions will be cut from their budgets, so get your doctor appointments in soon. If you or someone else relies on SNAP, millions will be cut from its budget. The “tax break” is more for the wealthy than you or me, and it screws everyone who isn’t the top 10% over.

This bill does not help us.
