Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

How about providing the new thresholds for recipients. Currently the thresholds determine who pays and what percentage of SS is taxable. It is not helpful to know that 90% of recipients won’t be taxed. People need to know whether they will be taxed. My guess is that 60% were already not taxed. So who are the additional 30%?

You have posted false information. The new bill does NOT eliminate taxes on social security. It does offer an additional income deduction of $6,000. It is misleading to say that total deductions for seniors will now exceed the average Social Security income. You cannot apply the existing standard deduction for all Americans only to Social Security income. Many seniors are forced to work at least part-time in retirement to make ends meet. That standard deduction belongs with other income they have to earn not only Social Security. We seniors appreciate the additional deduction, but we do not appreciate misleading information.

Trying to sell this to senior citizens is a new LOW for this administration. Take your big ugly bill and feed it to the alligators.

How about adding meaningful information (e.g. what is the 90% criteria)?

These federal tax cuts are temporary, lasting 2 years and are phased out at $75,000 for a single tax payer. You know what is not temporary – the tax cuts for the rich! The upper crust of society get to enjoy permanent tax cuts that will drive up the national debt which affects all of our financial security. Please call the White House and ask why the wealthy received a greater tax cut than seniors relying on Social Security. Dont accept crumbs when the elite are getting more than their fair share!

The Commissioner and anyone else who was involved in drafting this “press release” should be ashamed. This “One Big Beautiful Bill” will provide tax relief for seniors. But it will undermine their lives, health and security in a thousand other ways. The “applause” I’m hearing these days is the sound of a thousand billionaires spitting in our faces. And you are happily joining them?

Couldn’t agree more. This site has turned into a propaganda machine. I wonder if they will take down our comments?
