I need a copy of my deceased husband’s ssa 1099 for tax year 2019. I would appreciate it if you would send to my email account. I need it for filing my 2019 taxes.

We’re sorry to hear about your loss, Eleanor. The benefit statement is mailed to the last address in our records and is intended for the spouse or executor of the deceased. If you do not have access to the mail at that address, the executor will need to go into the local field office with proof of death and proof of executorship. An SSA-1099 can also be given to someone receiving benefits on the deceased beneficiary’s record such as a spouse, parent, or child of the deceased. Unfortunately, you may need to wait for the offices to reopen. We apologize for the inconvenience.

You can call us at 1-800-772-1213 for assistance or you can contact your local Social Security office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this information helps.

While the government has shut itself down, I must mail in my ONLY copy of my divorce decree and my passport. If these are lost in the post office black hole (we all know there IS one), I’m in a world of hurt. We should be able to scan and upload these. Or better yet, have a drop box that allows documents to be slipped inside the SSI building while it is closed. This is crazy! I am unable to get credit or even get credit cards in my maiden name. I can’t even change my name at the bank. Women get screwed by this draconian rule.

Why was I required to go to an office to apply for replacement? According to records online replacement cards have been available for last six months..
In talking with online staff my account shows that I am a fraud and was locked out. I have been trying online since January and have been made to feel criminal.
The Rock Hill SC SSA office is like Alcatraz, staff give conflicting instructions. Completely unnecessary

I have misplaced my social security card and would like to get a replacement card.

    • Ann C.

Hi, Sally. First, realize that you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing the Social Security number is what is important. To see if you’re eligible to apply for a replacement Social Security card online or to learn more on the process and what documents you will need to get a card please visit our Social Security Number and Card page. We hope this helps.
