How do I report My Husband Death

    • Vonda

We are very sorry for your loss, Carolyn. Typically, the funeral director notifies us of an individual’s passing by contacting the local Social Security office. To verify this information was reported, you can call us at 1-800-772-1213 for assistance or you can contact your local Social Security office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information.

How do I report that I am no longer receiving retirement funds from a IRA account created by my previous employer?

    • Vonda

Hi Betty, thank you for your question. If you’re receiving a Social Security benefit, you do need to report changes in your unearned income such as withdrawals from an IRA.

However, if you’re receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which is a needs based program, any change in your income and assets can affect your benefits and it must be reported. You can call us at 1-800-772-1213 for assistance or you can contact your local Social Security office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this information helps.
