I live in Australia and my wife and I receive social security benefits and would like to use SS online and setup a MyAccount to do so. But…I read online at your site I cannot do so because we don’t have a US mail address. My question is, will you be setting up a site that will allow us to have a MyAccount in near future?
This would certainly be helpful for us and other US retirees overseas! Thank you and I look forward to your reply, Arthur Krieger

    • Ray F.

We are sorry for the inconvenience, Arthur. You’re right! The “my Social Security” authentication system requires address verification as one of the essential criteria for issuing an account. People with APO/FPO/DPO addresses can create an account overseas, but our system does not support registration and account creation for users with a foreign address yet. However, you do not need a U.S. address to access our website!
We recommend that individuals living outside the United States contact their local U.S. embassy or consulate for any assistance related to their Social Security benefits. Also, our Office of International Operations home page provides more information to assist our customers living abroad. Thanks.

I am planning on Retiring from a federal job after 20 years 3 years from January 2019. I have a previous retirement from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts of 30%. I realize both retirement programs will be factored into my social security amount I will receive monthly. How can I obtain a realistic estimate for a monthly payment in order to plan?

    • Ray F.

Hi Ellen, our Retirement Estimator gives estimates of monthly Social Security benefits based on your actual Social Security earnings record. Also, we have a variety of calculators to help you plan for the future.
In your case, our “Online Calculator (WEP Version)” may be useful. Thanks!

Do I have to do anything to start drawing my social security? My full retirement is May 29. 2018. Thanks for any information

    • Ray F.

Hello Raymond. To receive your Social Security benefits, you must submit an application. There are different ways to apply for your benefits, including applying online.
Our system is set up to take applications three months in advance. Remember that benefits are paid the month after they are due. So, for instance, if you want your benefits to begin with the month of May, you will receive your first benefit payment in June. Please visit our Social Security Retirement Planner for more information.
