Hi how do you get a replacement social security card if you are under 18 years old? Or how can your parent/ guardian get you a new one?

  2. Josephine R.

I have tried to change my first name on my social security card. I have sent it twice to the Social Security office and I was denied. My first time, after I paid 37.00, I did not send the correct ID’s, the second time, I sent the birth certificate, marriage license and also my passport. I still was denied. I would like to know why???

Hi Josephine, thank you for using our blog. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page on how to change your name. All submitted documents must be either originals or certified copies by the issuing agency. We cannot accept photocopies or notarized copies of documents.

I just finished my neutralization, and I lost my old ssn card. How do I report to my local office in California when they are closed? How do I get a replacement?

Thank you for your question, Amy, and for reading our blog. Congratulations on becoming a U.S. citizen. You cannot update citizenship status with Social Security online. You will need to update your Social Security record by showing us your Certificate of Naturalization and completing an application for a corrected Social Security card. All submitted documents must be either originals or certified copies by the issuing agency. We cannot accept photocopies or notarized copies of documents. Please visit our Social Security and Coronavirus web page. If you believe you qualify for an in-office appointment, call your local office. You’ll find the contact information using our online Social Security Office Locator.

Im 17 years old & I’m trying to replace my social security card in California. How do i go from it?
It wont let me create an account.

    • Vonda

Hi Amairani, thank you for your question. First, realize you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. Check out our Social Security and Coronavirus web page for details on getting help with your Social Security number. We hope this helps!

      • Michele M.

For drivers licence and job applications, you do need to show it. So how does a minor request a replacement if a parent has lost it?
