I am inquiring on behalf of my parents, who receive their monthly social security allotments, as to why they have not received the stimulus amount given to others. I would appreciate guidance to find out further info. I understand that I have no authority for my parents, but at least if I can speak to someone who can assist them with a contact number. Thank you.

I completed the application for retirement benefits as I plan to retire from my job on 9/30/2020. I failed to indicate that I will retire on my application so my benefits say 0.00 dollars because it appears I will still be working. How do I correct it?

    • Vonda V.

    • Vonda V.

Hi JoAnn, thanks for using our blog. First, realize you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. However, if you must get a replacement card, you may be able to apply online. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to apply for a replacement Social Security card. If you cannot request a replacement card online, call your local office and request that we mail you an SSN printout instead of a replacement Social Security card. We are unable to process replacement Social Security card requests by phone at this time.

I signed up for Part A when first eligible at 65 and I did not retire. Now I am preparing to retire in November and need Part B. I believe I need to sign up under the special enrollment process (SEP) to avoid any penalties and receive benefits starting in December of 2020. The Online form says I need to fill out 2 others forms when applying when I got to the end of the application. CBM40B and CMS L564. No where can I find a place to do this on line or upload the documents reqiured. IE. W2 forms etc. It looks like a form I have to print out and mail in. How do I include this with my electronic application. Another page I found says need Part B? Start here which again has no online enrollment form. Looks like a print out and mail in form. Which do I do? I’m confused!

    • Vonda V.

Hi Candace, thanks for using our blog. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to sign up for Medicare Part B when you already have Part A.

If you still have questions, you can call us at 1-800-772-1213 or you can contact your local Social Security office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this information helps.

I completed the online application for benefits but nowhere does it tell me how to sign my application. I could review it, print the page with the re-entry code, hit the “are you sure you want to exit?” button, but I got to the end, expected that the blue box with “next” on it would would lead me to some sort of electronic signature box, but that didn’t appear.
    What next?

I finally found what may be the answer to my earlier problem. I found where it said I must be 61 years and 9 months old to apply, and I am a few weeks short of that. Would that be why it is not giving me the retirement application? Other information I have read said I should apply 4 months before I want to start benefits.

    • Vonda V.

Hi Tamara, thanks for using our blog. You can apply four months before you want your Social Security retirement benefits to start. If you want your benefits to start at age 62, you can apply at age 61 and eight months. Check out our Apply for Retirement Benefits web page for additional details. We hope this helps!
