Today, I’m excited to announce the first of several steps we’re taking to improve your experience on our website. Our newly redesigned retirement benefits portal will help you prepare for and apply for retirement.

We are working hard to continue improving our website to provide you with clear, helpful information, and easy access to our online services. Our new retirement portal is more user-friendly and easier to navigate, whether you’re ready to learn about, apply for, or manage your retirement benefits.

The redesigned portal will make it easier for you to find and read about retirement benefits, with fewer pages and clearer information. We condensed and rewrote most of the pages to make them easier to understand. The portal is optimized for mobile devices so people can learn and do what they want from wherever they want. And you can now subscribe to receive retirement information and updates.

Visit our new retirement benefits portal to find out how to Learn, Apply, and Manage retirement benefits. You also can learn how to create your own personal my Social Security account to see your latest Social Security Statement, review your earnings history, and receive personalized estimates of future benefits based on your real earnings.

More improvements to Social Security’s web pages are planned for later in 2020 as we continuously seek to improve your experience on our website.

It was really difficult and we remember trying to find a guy. This is a highly specialized work and so clearly a person who did not know general concepts and issues had to be found. I’ve found a piece on how long it outsourcing to ukraine and I’ve been able to locate a professional in the near future, save time for myself and people who cannot come here for anything. For this reason, I must quickly find the right professionals to optimize jobs, so that you can quickly find an employee even in small profiles.

I now live in a State that pays both social security and state retirement. I have not retired yet and have about 3 years left. If I move to a different state that only pays state public employees retirement can I still collect social security from previous state?

    • Sue

Hi, Jayne, and thanks for using our blog. If your state government pension is for work where you paid into both Social Security and the state retirement system, your Social Security benefit may not be affected by a law known as the Windfall Elimination Provision, regardless of where you live. If you have 30 or more years of substantial Social Security earnings, your Social Security benefit will not be reduced.

For more details, check out our Windfall Elimination Provision web page. You’ll find a table that lists the amount of substantial earnings for each year at the bottom of the second page of the Windfall Elimination Provision fact sheet. You’ll need your Social Security Statement from your my Social Security account to do the comparison. We hope this explanation helps.

How can I get a social security gross income statement before the Part B premium or any other expense is taken out? The letter usually comes in October saying the gross income will be for 2021.
    Thank you for your assistance.

Hi David, thanks for reading our blog and for your question. We mailed the COLA notices throughout the month of December to retirement, survivors, and disability beneficiaries, SSI recipients, and representative payees. You can also securely view and save the Social Security COLA notice online via the Message Center inside your my Social Security account . If you don’t have an account, create one today. We hope this helps!

And AARP says 13 states collect state tax on SS benefits from at least some beneficiaries, depending on adjusted gross income or other criteria: Colorado, Connecticut, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and West Virginia. So about 75% of the states impose no tax at all. Hope that helps. Generally speaking, the author has it right, but he could have qualified the exempt from state tax remark, which he explained played no role his calculations.

I tried to use the application for retirement online but it won’t let me get past the question of disability. Is there two different application options online for retirement and disability or are they the same? Not sure where to go from here other than to call and set up an appointment.

    • Vonda
