No Need to Visit a Field Office: Replace Your SSA-1099 Benefit Statement Online

The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you have the ability to download it anytime and anywhere you want using our online services. There’s no need to visit a field office.

An SSA-1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to IRS on your tax return.

If you currently live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.

A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is typically available for the previous tax year after February 1.

If you already have a personal my Social Security account, you should access your online account and go to “Replacements Documents” to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop and email it. If you don’t have a personal my Social Security account, creating a secure account is very easy to do and usually takes less than 15 minutes.

If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

    My mother in law never received her ssa1099 for 2020 in the mail. She is 95 years old and lives in an assisted living facility. She can’t see or hear well so she cannot use an on line service and we cannot legally request another 1099 be copied on line. Calling the help line was no help at all. How can she receive her 1099?

      Hi John. Because of privacy and security concerns, you will not be able to conduct Social Security business on behalf of your mother-in-law unless you are her representative payee. Having a power of attorney, being an authorized representative, or having a joint bank account with your mother does not authorize you to access information on her Social Security record. If she does not have a representative payee and is not capable of managing and directing her Social Security benefits, someone should consider applying to be her payee.     Neither my wife or I have received the SSA-1099 for 2020 have they been mailed? Or are they running late?
    In another section it says that they are mailed by Jan. 31, 2021
    It’s odd that neither of us have received the form.
    We’ve had no change of address and have been receiving them for several years at this address.

    Hello, My mother died April 21, 2020 and my father died October 21, 2020. Social Security mailed my father’s 1099 and we have it. We never received my mother’s 1099. When I called the local SSA office I was told I would need to mail a copy of the Trust and my actual driver’s license, passport or military ID to the office to get a replacement. This seems excessive. Is there another way so I can complete my late parents’ taxes?

      Vonda, The local Social Security offices wants me to mail in my actual passport, drivers license or military ID in order to get a copy of my deceased mother’s SSA 1099 to do her taxes. I am sorry but I do not feel comfortable mailing my identity documents to a local social security office.

    My issue is similar to the comment from Lucinda who needs to get SSA-1099 for her deceased mother.

    My uncle died in 2020. He lived alone. HIs estate did not need probate so there is no officially appointed Executor. I am his closest relative and must file his tax return for 2020.

    Social Security is supposed to mail SSA-1099 to his old address in January. I asked Post Office to forward his mail to me, but forwarding has been very unreliable. I have also read that mail from government offices is often marked DO NOT FORWARD.

    I have 2 questions.

    Will SSA-1099 be forwarded to me or will it be marked DO NOT FORWARD?

    If I don’t received the SSA-1099, how can I get it?

    You told Lucinda that Executor of estate can call local Social Security office to request SSA-1099. Can I request it even though I am not the officially appointed Executor?

    My mother died in 2020. I’ve had her mail forwarded to my address. Will her 1099 be forwarded or returned?

If you do not have access to the mail at that address, the executor will need to call the local field office after February 1, 2021.         My mother and father both passed away on the same day in 2020. I recieved an ssa-1099 for my father only and it was properly sent to my address. I have forwarded all of their mail. I am their executor of their wills and have letters of testementary for both of them. I have notified
        Social Security of both of their deaths. How can I get my mothers ssa-1099? Thanks.
