New Wage Reporting Application

On September 23, 2017, we released a new wage reporting application behind the my Social Security portal. Now, people who receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits and their representative payees can report wages securely online.
It’s faster and easier than ever before for SSDI beneficiaries and their representative payees to report wages; they can avoid visiting a field office to report their wages in person and they can print or save a receipt of their report.
When you sign up or log in to your my Social Security account, you’ll have access to this application on your desktop, laptop, and mobile device. After you report your wages online, you can save or print a copy of your receipt.
This service will be available for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients in the future. SSI recipients should continue to report wages through SSA Mobile Wage Reporting, SSI Telephone Wage Reporting, or by visiting a local field office.

I have bee approved for 3 and a half years and have not received any money had to hire another atternie, mean while,lost my home,lost just about everything else, and can’t afford sergury that I’ need because you dot have money for food,,and it’s a lot worse but, this is what i get for being a good tax payer for 40 years,and I was badly injured at work, was screwed by comp and disability I can barely walk on my own,with my youngest ,family fought,and died for this country but you punish,your own people,it’s a shame you just get the run around GOD HELP US All thanks for your time.

Can you earn any money on disability?

Great question, Joyce. There are special rules that help you keep your cash benefits and Medicare while you test your ability to work. We call these rules “work incentives“. A person may still be eligible for disability benefits under the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program if they work. However, their earnings cannot exceed a certain amount. This is called the Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) limit. In 2017, the SGA limit is $1,170 per month (or $1,950 for blind applicants). Work incentive employment supports disabled and blind SSI beneficiaries go to work by minimizing the risk of losing their SSI or Medicaid benefits. Your SSI amount will be decreased based on your monthly gross earnings. SSA counts a little less than half of your gross income when figuring up how much to cut away from your SSI check. For example, if you work and make $800/month, SSA will cut away about $357 of your SSI check.

Hi Marilyn. Individuals receiving Social Security disability benefits and their representative payees may use my Social Security to report wages online. Using their own my Social Security account, representative payees can report wages for any beneficiary they represent who works and receives Social Security Disability Insurance benefits. Go to the my Social Security portal and see “What does a my Social Security account let me do?” Try it!

Hi Ray,
I work for an organizational rep payee. How do we use the “mysocialsecurity” account feature to report our beneficiaries wages, when the “mysocialsecurity” account guidelines do not permit setting up or use of another person’s account? Also, I cannot set up and use my own personal account and use it for our organization’s beneficiaries since that is a HIPAA violation. So, just very confused as to how this feature can be used by rep payees.

Hi Debbie, if you’re referring to the “Retirement Earnings Test Exempt Amounts” for 2018:
Beneficiaries under full retirement age: $17,040/yr. ($1,420/mo.);
Beneficiaries reaching full retirement age in 2018: $45,360/yr. ($3,780/mo.)
If you work and are full retirement age or older, the amount you make at work will not affect your Social Security benefits, no matter how much you earn. Please read our publication “How Work Affects Your Benefits” for more information.

Someone needs to know that I called SS on 5/3/18 and was given totally incorrect information. I asked the rep three times, ‘are you sure’ and she insisted she was correct. I had called to see if the bill have been sent for me to pay back 2017 SSI, so she knew I was working and collecting SS. She insisted that since I turned 65 this year my limit was $42K, insisted. I called my local SS office yesterday and that rep gave me the correct info, as in the statement above. PLEASE FIND THIS WOMAN AT THE 800 # AND RETRAIN HER!!!!
I almost quit my $10 an hour job for a $24 an hour, I would have been SO MAD!!!!
While I’m venting, PLEASE INCREASE THIS PROVERTY INCOME LEVELS. I worked over 30 years for Verizon, get a decent SS Check, but it doesn’t begin to pay expenses in a big city. RAISE THAT LIMIT TO $25,000, let us hard working elderly at 65, have our money!

Thank you for your question, LaQuita. When you receive disability benefits under the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program, we will automatically convert your disability benefits to retirement benefits, when you attain your Full Retirement Age. The benefit amount will generally remains the same.

I’ve been going through hell financially trying to go to school trying to get the money to go to school being denied time and time again when I put money into my social security benefit program and all I get no no no I want to go to school so I can train therapy dogs for all mankind military for military boys and girls for children and I want to become a professional groomer for animals but I’m not a drug dealer or drug mule bringing the stuff into the state if I had a drug problem alcohol problem or anything else I’ll probably get anything I want like these morons on in Pennsylvania can get cuz I see it everyday when I live in Charleroi that’s a shame people that work for can’t get it the people have problems like that and continue to have problems like that cuz I won’t seek help it continue to get it and a law doesn’t do anything to him I have living proof send the representative down here and I’ll introduce you to people that can tell you the same thingi
