New Guidance about COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments

“The Treasury Department launched a new web tool allowing quick registration for Economic Impact Payments for eligible individuals who do not normally file a tax return, and also announced that it would begin making automatic payments.  However, for some people receiving benefits from the Social Security Administration—specifically those who have dependent children under the age of 17—it is to their advantage to go to this portal to ensure they also get the $500 per dependent Economic Impact Payment.  I encourage them to do this as soon as possible, and want to provide the following details:

People who receive Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability insurance benefits and who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019 and who have qualifying children under age 17 should now go to the IRS’s webpage to enter their information instead of waiting for their automatic $1,200 Economic Impact Payment.  By taking proactive steps to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment.  If Social Security beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, they will have to wait to receive their $500 per qualifying child.

The same new guidance also applies to SSI recipients, especially those who have qualifying children under age 17.  To receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for, go to the IRS’s Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info page and provide information about yourself and your qualifying children.

Additionally, any new beneficiaries since January 1, 2020, of either Social Security or SSI benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019, will also need to go to the IRS’s Non-Filers website to enter their information.

Lastly, for Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries who do not have qualifying children under age 17, you do not need to take any action with the IRS.  You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS as long as you received an SSA-1099 for 2019.

For SSI recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17, we continue to work closely with Treasury in our efforts to make these payments automatically.  Please note that we will not consider Economic Impact Payments as income for SSI recipients.

The eligibility requirements and other information about the Economic Impact Payments can be found at the IRS’s Coronavirus Tax Relief and Economic Impact Payments page.  In addition, please continue to visit the IRS for the latest information.”

  1. Thankful ?.

Hi! I receive SSDI. I have two children, a 17 year old who I claim as my dependent, and a 15 year old; both receiving Survivors’ Benefits.

I filed Form 1040 due to insurance purposes. But since I will not receive a refund I did not input my bank information. (I filed early March before Covid-19).

Do I still have to file a “Non- Filers” to receive $500 for my child who is 15 when I already filed a 1040 and SS has my bank information???

    Thank you in advance!

Hi there. Thank you for using our blog. People who receive Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability insurance benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019, and who have qualifying children under age 17 and those receiving SSI who have qualifying children under age 17 should go to the IRS’s webpage to enter your information instead of waiting for your automatic $1,200 Economic Impact Payment. By taking proactive steps to enter information on the IRS website about you and your qualifying children, you will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to your $1,200 individual payment. If Social Security beneficiaries and SSI recipients in this group do not provide information to the IRS soon, you will have to wait to receive $500 per qualifying child.

I filed my 2018 tax return but didn’t include direct deposit info as I didn’t have a refund or owed money.

I also receive SSA 1099. I receive my SS benefits via direct deposit.

I don’t have direct deposit info on file with IRS. Would they use the direct deposit info on file with Social Security even though I do file tax returns?

        • V.V.

Hi AJ, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

            Hi Vonda…thanks for your response.

I’m confused because what you mentioned was cited in reference to NON-filers.

Please let me know if that also applies to people who filed their 2018 tax returns but didn’t include direct deposit info because they didn’t have a refund or owed money? And they do receive direct deposits for their SS benefits. Thanks.

I realize we are all entitled to our own opinions, but do we have to use/print the foul language? I was looking for the answer to a question but gave up after the 3rd F-word. A lot of us that are are on SS were brought up without even saying shit or damn. Please control this or censor it!

    • dan

You just said shit and damn

This is 2020. Fuck off, go turn on the Donna Reed show

    • figures

dawn, i know right? There is a way that you can censor them like on instagram, where you can choose what words you don’t want to see. You can find by looking up your ass hole.

  3. Fred

I have an adult son who receives SSI. He is also claimed as a dependent on my tax return. Will he receive a stimulus check?

    • Elias

Please fuck off. This question is asked 30 times every god damn hour.

      • Richard

Hey not everyone is as smart as you Elias chill out

        • Elias

It has nothing to do with intelligence, Richard. It is pure laziness. Coming here, posting a question, not looking to see if the answer has been asked. Its not hard to find considering how many fucking times it is asked. Don’t give me this shit about disabled, and not being “smart”. If you can log on to the computer, find this site, complete sentences and write them out correctly, then you can do your own research. Don’t be lazy bastards.

      • Keacha

Elias you are a very rude and disrespectful person. No good come to people like you.

    Hey all!
I live in Bristol, CT. I have social security benefits, do not file taxes and my bank just sent me an alert that I have $1200 pending!!!!! Just wanted to share!

    • Paul

Good news Monica, I think it is starting to payout. I am on SS and not filed taxes to. Maybe it is on the way. Thanks for the update.

      Paul

  5. Bluewave

It most likely doesn’t look like it will be tomorrow if you check your DirectExpress app it shows nothing is pending

    • Giles L.

I have no idea what direct express is. I have a bank account

      • Sunny

I agree, but there is also something called scrolling past. Try it.

        • Sunny

Sorry, that comment didn’t land in the right place.

      • Sunny

Yes, every other comment is something about Direct Express, and I have no idea what it is, either.

  6. Giles L.

when the hell are we getting this money? tomorrow? may? during next checks?
    dicks

  7. Jim

i think i threw up a little tell them they get money they do not deserve be grateful

  8. Jimmy

I have a question for someone out there. I drive my neighbors to the get groceries every two weeks because they are older and don’t have a drivers license, granddaughter is 11. They have lived here for nine years but never worked in this country, they are from Mexico. They receive 4600 dollars each month for the 3 of them, which l really didn’t believe until the young girl showed me their SS deposits bank statements. They also carry a card to pay for their groceries but I notice they don’t get any money back when they pay. They want to know when they will get their stimulus checks. I dont know what to tell them, l just told them to watch their bank account. Does anyone know? Thanks

    • dave

      holy fuck. greedy pricks

    • Richard

Tell them to wait for now because I think like myself, a lot of people aren’t even seeing a pending deposit yet . Although someone did report it once on here.

    • V.V.

Hi Jimmy, thank you for your question. Please visit the IRS Economic Impact Payments Information Center to answer your questions about eligibility, payment amounts, what to expect, when to expect it and more. Hope this helps!

Tony you so correct the governor of texas said the elderly and disabled will have to suffer for the rest of the country because thats the way life works. Just like trump said the rich would be tested because they could afford it. He said thats how it has worked for years. I don’t expect to see a check i will be surprised. My father got his because he filed taxes. I filed too but because i didn’t have to i am not found in the system. I am just grateful that they didn’t cut my check off. He has been trying like mad to cut social security and medicare so just grateful for now. I still understand that it will be cut in years coming because of the money they stole from it and never replaced so hoping to not live at that time because i don’t make enough to live now. I can’t afford an apartment they want three times the rent for you to make. Hud is a joke and people that are not so nice live there and it is dirty and not safe. Would rather live in my car which i have done more than once than live in hud. But the economy was supposed to be booming and people getting off disability. Yea and working two jobs to survive. Only thing booming was the stock market. So not counting on money. If we get it it will be like next year. lol

  10. Paul

I am still checking to see if anyone has already received a stimulus payment yet that is on social security SSA with 1099 and direct deposit and has not filed taxes for 2019. If one person has received it that means it is on the way.
