New Fact Sheets Added to Your Online Statement

Your Social Security Statement, available on my Social Security, tells you how much you or your family can expect to receive in disability, survivor, and retirement benefits.

We’ve added new fact sheets to accompany the online Statement. These new fact sheets provide clarity and useful information, based on your age group and earnings situation. They can also help you better understand Social Security programs and benefits.

You can access your Statement and the new fact sheets using your personal my Social Security account.

The new Statement fact sheets cover the following topics:

  • Retirement readiness for workers in four different age groups.
  • Workers with non-covered earnings who may be subject to the Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset.
  • Social Security basics for new workers.
  • How people become eligible for benefits (for workers not fully insured).
  • How additional work can increase your future benefits.
  • Medicare readiness for workers age 62 and up.

If you don’t have a my Social Security account, be sure to create one so you can access your Statement, fact sheets, and other useful information about Social Security. You can create your personal my Social Security account on our website.

To learn more, visit our Social Security Statement webpage. Please share these resources with your friends and family.

When are people on Social Security going to get the Third Stimulus Check?

  3. Alfred W.

I can’t find the fact sheet on my online account

  4. Darwin

Can I receive my social security check on another date please?

    • Vonda

Hi Darwin. Unfortunately you cannot change the date you receive your benefits. If you were receiving or applied for Social Security benefits on or before April 30, 1997, or if you receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), you will receive your benefit on the third of the month. If you receive only SSI, you will receive your benefit on the first of the month. If you applied for Social Security benefits after April 30, 1997, the birthday of the person whose record you receive benefits under determines your payment date:
      Date of Birth Payment Day:
      1st through 10th Second Wednesday
      11th through 20th Third Wednesday
      21st through 31st Fourth Wednesday

Go to Schedule of Social Security Payments for the current payment dates.

    Good day
My wife and I both receive SS. I have a government pension and VA disability. What SS benefits can my wife expect to receive upon my death?

    • Vonda

Hi Steve, thanks for using our blog to ask your question. Typically, a widow or widower at full (survivors) retirement age or older generally receives 100% of the deceased worker’s amount, a widow or widower under full retirement age receives about 71 to 99 percent of the worker’s benefit amount, and a widow or widower with a child younger than age 16 receives 75 percent of the worker’s benefit amount.

We are only going to pay the highest benefit amount from either record, meaning you don’t get both retirement and widow(er)s benefits but the higher of the two. For more information about how much your benefit would be, visit our If You Are The Survivor web page.

Question; why we fail to receive our stimulus check?. Most of the people on social security do not file income tax, because our only income is our social security check. I hope that this issue is being notice so our government think about us, the old working people that work for years and contribute to the economic of our country. Money can’t buy back our youth, but will help us to live with dignity.

I don’t think it’s fair to cut disability people off because the get married to someone who is getting social security benefits. The income limit for couples that are married is ridiculous!!! A single person can’t live off $1100 a month! What happened to taking care of the elderly and disabled!!! The income limit should be raised for married couples!!!

I would like to establish an online account. Too bad I don’t have a US mailing address. I own a house in Florida but I live in Israel. I can’t use my house as an address since I don’t live in it. I was advised once that the Federal Benefits unit at US Embassy in Jerusalem will be the place to go to for social security related questions. This is fine but so inconvenient. Although I live less than 30 miles from Embassy it takes 4 to 5 hours to get there due to traffic jams and security issues. Wouldn’t be nice if the requirement for US mailing address is waived due to extreme difficulty?
