I created an account a while ago but I cannot remember my username or password. Can you please assist?

I and my wife requested password reset for our accounts. We are currently out of country until travel restrictions are lifted. Our 1099’s never made our home in Arkansas. So we need to get the electronic copies from the site.
The letters arrived; but they were numbers for resetting access methods. No good without the password!
Due to the situation I find us in, getting to a good internet connection is very problematic. I do receive a usable data connection some days.
Is there a way for me to get straight to the necessary page to input the reset number?
Also, how do I insure that the next code I receive will be for password reset, as requested and with instructions.
    Greg

Hi Gregory, thank you for using our blog. We are sorry to hear about the difficulties you are experiencing. If you are unable to request a replacement SSA-1099 online, and you are currently outside of the U.S., you will need to contact your local Federal Benefits Unit for assistance. Also, our Office of International Operations home page provides more information to assist our customers living abroad. We hope this helps.

I received a password reset code for my account, but where do i input this code?

    • Vonda V.

Hi Mary, thank you for using our blog. When you sign in with your username and password, it will then ask if you received a reset letter. You select “Yes, let’s begin” . The reset code is issued when you need to change the second factor authentication method associated with your information.

If you forgot your password, and the password reset questions didn’t work, we can send a temporary password in some circumstances. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to retrieve or change your username or password. We hope this helps.

  7. Patty A.

I need to change my withholding deduction. Cannot speak to a live person with TRS, only recordings. Same with SS.

Also, I sent my tax return in on January 31, 2020. As of May 19, 2020, I still have not received it. Cannot speak to live person, only recording.

COVID 19 is a lousy excuse for not answering the phone.

    • Vonda V.

Hi Patty, thank you for using our blog. To change your federal tax withholding, you’ll need to complete Form W-4V from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). You can download the form or call the IRS toll-free at 1-800-829-3676 and ask for Form W-4V. Complete and sign the form and return it to your local Social Security office by mail. We hope this is helpful.

There are three requests in the past two months for instructions on how to use the RESET CODE that you receive in the mail. None of these requests was answered. I also have received a RESET CODE in the mail but there are no instructions on how to use it. Could you please enter clear instructions on the steps you take to use the RESET CODE that you receive in the mail from SSA. Thank you so much.

    • Vonda V.

Hi Robert, thank you for using our blog. When you sign in with your username and password, it will then ask if you received a reset letter. You select “Yes, let’s begin” . Sorry to say, however, this is a completely useless reply [from Vonda/Support]. Please read the question carefully before responding.

The question is once you RECEIVE the RESET CODE, what are the steps to use this reset code? I am facing the same issue and spent 2 hours trying to figure out how to use the RESET CODE. I have received it to reset the method to change the second factor authentication method. What do I need to do with this code? What is the specific URL where I need to enter to the RESET code? The instructions are not clear at all (take it to generic SSA login web page) to follow. Thank You.

        • Desiree J.

I just did this. You say “Forgot Password” on the login screen, they will send a confirmation code to your email and then you can put in your reset code.

Also? Make sure you clear any old passwords before attempting to put in your new password. The system seems to have trouble with trying to autofill everything and won’t let you put in a few password cuz it keeps trying to autofill the old ones.
