  • Apply for Retirement, Disability, and Medicare benefits.
  • Check the status of an application or appeal.
  • Request a replacement Social Security card (in most areas).
  • Print a benefit verification letter and much more.

Although you can do most of your business with us online, we know that service channel isn’t right for everyone.  You can still count on us by phone.  If you have a critical situation and we cannot help you with by phone or online, we may be able to schedule an appointment for you.

If you need help, please don’t wait until we can see you in person.  Call us now and get the help you need.  We also understand that getting medical and other documentation can be difficult due to the pandemic, so we are continuing to extend certain deadlines wherever possible.

The SSC Office in bloomington, indiana is closed currently due to covid-19. I got married July 19th and am needing to get my last name changed. How can I go about doing this since the office is still closed until further notice?

    • Vonda V.

Hi Chelsi, thank you for using our blog. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page on how to change your name. If you do not want to mail in your documents, which will be returned, you may need to wait for the offices to reopen. Use our Social Security Office Locator to find your local office address. We hope this helps.

When I applied for SSR, my income record was used, not my ex-spouses of 10 years. It says this though:
“If you’re eligible for Social Security benefits based on your own work record as well, the Social Security Administration will pay out your benefits first. Then, if you’re entitled to more money in spousal or divorce benefits, you’ll receive a little extra each month.”
So why wasn’t I told about that?

    According to “Motley Fool” online….
    It says:
If your spouse is the higher earner in the household and is eligible for Social Security benefits, you may be eligible to collect spousal benefits. The maximum you can receive in spousal benefits is 50% of the amount your spouse is entitled to collect at his or her full retirement age. Similarly, if your ex-spouse is entitled to benefits, you may be able to claim divorce benefits based on his or her work record as long as you two were married for at least 10 years and you are not currently married.

If you’re eligible for Social Security benefits based on your own work record as well, the Social Security Administration will pay out your benefits first. Then, if you’re entitled to more money in spousal or divorce benefits, you’ll receive a little extra each month.

I am disabled. I have made millions of dollars for over thousands of Auto body shops here in long island. These auto body shops don’t pay you on the books. They pay you peanuts. While they make, thousands off the sweat of your brow. And when you find yourselves like me disabled. No body wants to help. I need financial assistance. I need medical assistance, I need food in my home. I can’t provide for my home or my family. Now I’m a useless disabled man unable to obtain assistance of any kind. And I’m a legal citizen. Born and raised here. What about the millions of dollars that my Strawman earns. Why can’t I collect that?
This system is so rigged. But yet you have millions of illegals come here making money off my homeland my God given inherited rights. Given to me by my creator. And you give ALL my inheritance to bunch of illegals. And deny me some kind of help. If the government didn’t steal my land. Maybe I could be self sustaining. I wouldn’t be almost living on the streets, homeless, because I’d have my own land. I could build a home a garden and not worry where or what government containment facility your slave system is gonna put me in. For being a,homeless vagrant. Due to the government stealing my homelands. Making money off stolen lands world wide. Help Me.

Apply for your states Medicaid, SNAP benefits, and apply for SSI. Unless you have enough work credits, you are not eligible for SSDI.

You say that u are a le to work online, by phone or an emergency appointment in ur webpage. Well, We applied for Our kids SSN and talk with an officer in the West Palm Beach, FL, who told Us which docs to send via mail to receive the SSN cards. We sent all what is requested in originals and today We received a letter saying that due to covid u cant issue the SSN. What a contradiction and irony that you state that u can work out in emergency situations but when it comes to facts is a lie. We need the SSN to get Our kids in School, enroll them in healthcare and so forth. Dont take the covid situation as an excuse not to work.
