Important Information About Reaching Social Security During the COVID-19 Pandemic

During the current coronavirus pandemic, we continue to provide help to you and other people in your communities.  While our offices are not providing service to walk-in visitors due to COVID-19, we remain ready and able to help you by phone with most Social Security business.  You can speak with a representative by calling your local Social Security office or our National 800 Number.  You can find local office phone numbers online by using our Social Security Office Locator.

We offer many secure and convenient online services, where you can:

 

  • Apply for Retirement, Disability, and Medicare benefits.
  • Check the status of an application or appeal.
  • Request a replacement Social Security card (in most areas).
  • Print a benefit verification letter and much more.

Although you can do most of your business with us online, we know that service channel isn’t right for everyone.  You can still count on us by phone.  If you have a critical situation and we cannot help you with by phone or online, we may be able to schedule an appointment for you.

If you need help, please don’t wait until we can see you in person.  Call us now and get the help you need.  We also understand that getting medical and other documentation can be difficult due to the pandemic, so we are continuing to extend certain deadlines wherever possible.

    Can i mail a application for a replacement social security card with the right documentation. I have the application and proof of identification. If so were Can I mail them too.

      Hi Jennifer, thanks for using our blog. First, realize you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. However, if you must get a replacement card, you may be able to apply online. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to apply for a replacement Social Security card. If you are unable to apply online, you can send in the application along with documentation. All documents must be either originals or certified copies by the issuing agency. We cannot accept photocopies or notarized copies of documents. Please use our Social Security Office Locator to locate your local office address.

      If you do not see the answer to your question, you can call the Internal Revenue Service’s EIP hotline at 1-800-919-9835. The Social Security Administration cannot answer EIP questions about your specific situation.

    Why is the automated system so long? I called before 5:30 and was not able to speak to an agent because I was held up by the automated system that took 5 min just to get to the point it very frustrating and unnecessary.

    I need to submit a name change due to a marriage. Is there an office in Houston that is accepting appointments? If so what is the contact info for that location? My occupation requires traveling and I also need my passport changed & I was told that I needed my SS card changed first. Thank you in advance.

      Congratulations, Jose! You will need to update your Social Security record by showing us your Certificate of Naturalization and completing an application for a replacement card. All documents must be either originals or certified copies by the issuing agency. We cannot accept photocopies or notarized copies of documents.       Hi Ns, thank you for using our blog. First, realize you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. If you cannot request a replacement card online, call your local office and request that we mail you an SSN printout instead of a replacement Social Security card. Unfortunately, we are unable to process replacement Social Security card requests by phone at this time.

    Tried to call to apply fir Social Security was on hold a long time I ended the call. Then I tried to set up an account on line to no avail. I need to apply soon. I turned 65 on June 22 if this year. Please help. Thank you
