Protecting your information is an important part of Social Security’s mission. You work hard and make a conscious effort to save and plan for retirement. Unfortunately, fraud and scams are a part of our current reality. Scammers try to stay a step ahead of us, but our cyber-security programs help us protect the information entrusted to us. Despite the techniques we use to thwart scams, we can’t do it alone. You can read Social Security’s joint press release with the Office of Inspector General about our new nationwide Public Service Announcement (PSA) campaign. This new PSA campaign addresses these telephone impersonation schemes in a series of video and audio ads. Watch the video above and learn how you can help us protect your information.

Also, earlier this month, we teamed up with the Federal Trade Commission for a Facebook Live event to discuss more consumer protection tips. If you missed this very important session, you can find it on our Facebook page.

This is a product or outcome of our outsourcing jobs. Banks , credit cards companies, . Not all, but I did notice a huge surge in this activity. Please I urge you to tell our leaders they might want to look more into this . I see Detroit and think to myself , wow this could be the future of great nation. Why? because greed , let’s reset the button and get those jobs back here in this great nation.

There should be a link on the SSA WEBSITE to report your social security card stolen.
Since the Shelter in Place I have been unable to inform the SSA of this occurring. I am afraid my information was sold to another party. This awful creature has since DIED. It brings much stress to feel left in LIMBO FOR SO LONG!!

Hi Elaine, thank you for using our blog. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) created a Self-Lock process. Locking an SSN helps stop individuals from using stolen SSNs to gain work authorization through E-Verify. Read more at https://www.uscis.gov/mye-verify/self-lock. To learn more about the steps individuals can take to prevent or resolve issues of identity theft, read our publication: “Identity Theft and Your Social Security Number”.

We recommend you only obtain a replacement Social Security card if you need one. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. However, if you must get a replacement card, you will need to gather documents proving both your identity and citizenship status. To see if you’re eligible to apply for a replacement Social Security card online or to learn more on the process and what documents you will need to get a card, visit our Social Security Number and Card web page. Thanks!

I was called several times from the following number, saying that I’d risk arrest if I didn’t call back and give information re my ss#:
CID 989-303-2136; states location as St Louis, MO.
“Social Security number when you called to better assist you with the _______ now if I don’t hear a call from you we will have to issue and arrest warrant under your name and get you arrested so get back to me as soon as possible thank you…”
