I am trying to find out the status of my benefit application but as I don’t have a US address I can’t set up an online account. Is there an email address I can contact to get this information?

  2. Carol E.

Hello I’m going to try to call my local Social Security office today. I called the national office yesterday. My father’s email was compromised. We need to change the email address on his account. It won’t allow us to do that. That’s all we want to do. I need to make sure his money isn’t getting filtered out to a grifter or whatever. It is on direct deposit, but I want to have him have access to his account online to keep an eye on things. He doesn’t remember his password on the hacked email account. Help!

I am wondering how to either set up a SSN account or receive information about my benefits. The online account doesn’t let me enter a Canadian address. I am a Canadian citizen who lived and worked in the US for over 20 years. I am now living back in Canada and want to keep on top of what benefits I have.

Hi, Colleen. Since you are living outside of the U.S. you can contact your local Federal Benefits Unit for any assistance related to Social Security benefits. Also, our Office of International Operations home page provides more information to assist our customers living abroad. We hope this helps.

Hi Ronakld, thanks for checking in with us. Over the weekend we experienced intermittent issues with some of our online services, including my Social Security accounts. We identified the cause and have fixed the issue. Our online services are currently available and fully operational. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

I’ve had an account for years. Now when I go back and try to log in, I’m told I need to finish setting up my account and enter an Activation Code I was never provided. How do I get an activation code so that I can get back into my account?

Suddenly, after reading several comments, I understand I’ve had my precious TIME wasted by feds…again! We suck sharks as a gov system. If there’s a completely backwards choice, that’s the one guaranteed to be chosen vs COMMON SENSE. Common sense dictates SOCSEC IRS etc…are internet WEBSITES & should be “OPEN” 24/7! NEVER closed! Maintenance should be scheduled & feds need to be TRANSPARENT about POSTING THE SCHEDULE FOR MAINTENANCE…smh

  10. Constantin

Hello, I’m Canadian and trying to create an account but the form I found online has no provisions to type in the province name, the country name and postal code. Is there a different online form I can use to set up my social security account?

    Thank you

    • Vonda

Hi Constantin, thanks for using our blog. At this time you must have a U. S. mailing address to create or access your online account. The “my Social Security” authentication system requires address verification as one of the essential criteria for issuing an account. People with APO/FPO/DPO addresses can create an account overseas, but our system does not support registration and account creation for users with a foreign address yet.

Even though you are unable to create a my Social Security account, you may still file benefit applications online.

      • Rita

Your actually giving a Canadian advice on how to file a Social Security account, without noting that it is U.S. citizens? This seems secure.
