Where do you apply the reset code

    • Vonda V.

Hi Denise, thank you for using our blog. When you sign in with your username and password, it will then ask if you received a reset letter. You select “Yes, let’s begin” . The reset code is issued when you need to change the second factor authentication method associated with your information.

If you forgot your password, and the password reset questions didn’t work, we can send a temporary password in some circumstances. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to retrieve or change your username or password. We hope this helps.

We are trying to retrieve the username/password for my wife’s account. The page for retrieving them won’t accept any of the email addresses I provide. Is there a way to delete this account so we can create a new one?

    • Vonda V.

Hi Steve, thanks for using our blog. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to retrieve or change your username and password. We hope this helps!

How long does it take to receive the activation code? I did the first part of the account creation, went to finish and need the code. I haven’t gotten an email or a text. Is it minutes, hours or days?

    • Vonda V.

Hi Deanne, thank you for using our blog. An activation code is provided after speaking with a Social Security representative. A representative will verify your identity and issue a letter containing an activation code. To create a my Social Security account, click on Create New Account. We hope this helps.

The government SS site is too difficult to use and NOT very intuitive at all. It has locked me out unnecessarily and issued a reset code. The letter and the website do not even adequately describe how to get to where you put in the reset code. I already have an account so I should not have to “create a new account.” I really cannot understand or navigate it and I am not that old. Makes me very concerned that I cannot access my SS account and I really have to wonder how an aged person could get their information if I can’t even get my own very easily.

    • Vonda V.

Hi Charlotte, thanks for using our blog. If you no longer have access to the second factor (cell phone or email address) on your account, and you need to change the second factor, you then can request a reset code online. The system will mail a reset code letter to the address on file. You then enter this reset code online, after signing in with your username and password, to change the second factor associated with your information.

If you forgot your password, and the password reset questions didn’t work, we can send a temporary password in some circumstances. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to retrieve or change your username or password. We hope this helps.

My “one-time reset code” in the USPS mail letter can NOT be entered here: https://secure.ssa.gov/
    or here: socialsecurity.gov/myaccount
Only asks for an “Activation code” these web pages never ask for the “one-time reset code”.
