" "Tax season is approaching, and we have made replacing your annual Benefit Statement even easier. The Benefit Statement, also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S, is a tax form we mail each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from us in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to the IRS on your tax return.

If you live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and get an instant, printable replacement form using your personal my Social Security account. A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is available for the previous tax year after February 1.

If you already have a personal my Social Security account, you can log in to your account to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document to your computer or email it to yourself. If you don’t have a personal my Social Security account, creating one is very easy to do and usually takes less than 10 minutes.

If you’re a non-citizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S in the mail. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.

With a personal my Social Security account, you can do much of your business with us online. If you receive benefits or have Medicare, your personal my Social Security account is also the best way to:

  • Request a replacement Social Security number card (in most states and the District of Columbia).
  • Get your benefit verification letter.
  • Check your benefit and payment information.
  • Change your address and phone number.
  • Change your direct deposit information.
  • Request a replacement Medicare card.
  • Report your wages if you work and receive Social Security disability insurance or SSI benefits.

I need to submit a new w4v for me and my wife. Your ‘office locations’ page is no longer on your web site. Where is the closest office near 80012 where I can turn it in as soon as possible?

    • Vonda

Hi Robert, thanks for using our blog. Please mail the completed, signed form to your local Social Security office. Use our Social Security Office Locator to obtain their mailing address. We hope this helps!

I receive monthly payments on 3rd of every month. Payment for Jan 2021, was deposited on Dec 31, 2020 as Jan 1-3, 2021 were holidays.
So, total 13 payments in 2020 for me including Dec 31, 2020 payment for Jan 2021.

Not sure if its lost in the mail, but I do not have Form SSA-1042S for 2020 that is sent in the mail. Non citizens living outside US cannot have my social security account to get replacement SSA-1042S.

I wish to know, if SSA includes (Jan 2021) payment made on Dec 31, 2020 in SSA-1042S for 2020. If so, I can add all 13 payments to calculate the total benefit for 2020. Please confirm.

    • Vonda

Hi Sam, thanks for using the blog. When the January 3 check delivery date falls on a non-banking day and the first previous banking day is in the previous year, we deliver the January benefit check in December. However, for taxation of benefits purposes, the check for January 3 that we issued in late December is treated as if we issued it in the year associated with the intended January 3 delivery date. We hope this helps!

Where exactly on the My Social Security site can one see and print the SSA-1099 form? I have looked many times and have never seen it.

Also, where can I find out how much SS gives me each month. It is less than the Medicare Part B monthly premium (as I worked outside the US most of my life) and is deducted for my monthly Medicare Part B premium. I then pay the difference at the end of the year. The notification letter always says that I received no social security. My husband and I used to receive the notification letter with this info provided, but no longer.

    • Vonda

Hi Katherine. We mailed the COLA notices throughout the month of December to retirement, survivors, and disability beneficiaries, SSI recipients, and representative payees. You can also securely view and save the Social Security COLA notice online via the Message Center inside your my Social Security account . We hope this helps!
