Tax season is approaching, and Social Security has made replacing your annual Benefit Statement even easier. The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you can get a copy of your 1099 anytime and anywhere you want using our online services.

A Social Security 1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to the IRS on your tax return.

If you live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form through your personal my Social Security account.

A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is available for the previous tax year after February 1.

If you already have a my Social Security account, you can log in to your online account to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop or even email it. If you don’t have a my Social Security account, creating one is very easy to do and usually takes less than 10 minutes.

If you receive benefits or have Medicare, your my Social Security account is also the best way to:

  • Get your benefit verification letter;
  • Check your benefit and payment information;
  • Change your address and phone number;
  • Change your direct deposit information;
  • Request a replacement Medicare card; or
  • Report your wages if you work and receive Social Security disability insurance or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.

If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S in the mail. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

    I adopted my Grandchild and I applied for Social Security Benefits for my child. I recently turned 70. Can my adopted child receive the benefits at my age (70) or the full retirement amount you receive at age 67. I have been unable to find any policy or discussion concerning this. Also, I know Medicare Premiums will not be deducted from the child’s benefits; I’m assuming Federal Taxes will, likewise, not be deducted.. I was told by a Social Security agent to “Google It”. There must be written guidance somewhere in SS policies, regulations, guidance.

    Thank you for your assistance. I have spent a good deal of time trying to find the answers.

    are not deducted from her benefits I’m assuming Federal taxes will not be deducted as will

I have called SSAand spoke to several people, but no one can seem to help. the $ is wrong on the form? I just was allowed for Disability on my back and was allowed back monies from 2016. Hi Phyllis. The SSA-1099 shows the amount of benefits you received in the prior calendar year. A worksheet (IRS Notice 703) is included for determining whether any portion of your Social Security benefits received is subject to income tax. Please call your local Social Security office for a corrected SSA-1099. Look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this information helps.

    I’m trying to get a replacement 1099 form for my mother, Fay H. Taylor, who died in May of 2020. The form was probably sent to her former address – she was in a nursing home when she died. Her SS# is ***-**-****

    • Vonda

      We are very sorry for your loss, Joy. The SSA-1099 is mailed in January to the last address in our records and is intended for the spouse or executor of the deceased. If you do not have access to the mail at that address, the executor will need to call the local field office after February 1, 2021. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this information helps.

    Hello, I was on-line a long time trying to access my account but was kicked off, as don’t remember the password, and unable to make a new account. I tired calling and after being on the phone a long time with automated guy who didn’t understand the need, and the call was dropped. I need a replacement copy of my SSA 1099, sent to my address: 121 Colonnade St, #4, Lynchburg, VA 24502, as I’m yet to receive it, and need to do my taxes. I moved here almost 8 months ago, so maybe my address needs to be updated in the system from my old address in Daytona Beach, 32118. I was unable to do it so need your help. Just let me know that you’ve requested it, as I can’t do it otherwise, as have tried, tried, and tried.
