Correcting the Record about Social Security Office Closings

Recent reports in the media that the Social Security Administration (SSA) is permanently closing local field offices are false. Since January 1, 2025, the agency has not permanently closed or announced the permanent closure of any local field office. From time to time, SSA must temporarily close a local field office for reasons such as weather, damage, or facilities issues, and it reopens when the issues are resolved. The agency has announced the permanent closure of one hearing office, in White Plains, NY.
SSA works closely with local congressional delegations before closing any office permanently. The agency also reassigns employees from an affected office to other locations to help communities access in-person services.
“SSA is committed to providing service where people need help and our local field offices are no exception,” said Lee Dudek, Acting Commissioner of Social Security. “We have not permanently closed any local field offices this year.”
SSA identified for the General Services Administration underutilized office space to ensure the government is spending taxpayer money as prudently as possible. The agency provided GSA a list of sites for termination. Most of these are small hearing rooms with no assigned employees. Since most hearings are held virtually, SSA no longer needs these underutilized rooms.

I’m sorry to see that those who voted for Pres. Trump are suffering in the same boat as the many of us democracy who didn’t since he has broken many promises.

Look at federal several cuts,inflation and fraudulent DOGE actions. Federal workers fired without cause and corrupted Musk federal agent government entirely disregarding the WARN Act. Layoffs are to be given a sixty day notice and properly documented so those affected by loss of their jobs can receive unemployment benefits earned. Trump needs to have his pants suited for all assets he owns.

I keep hearing about the Trump administration cutting Social Security compensation and SSI compensation. Although Trump has said his administration is not going to scale back payments, I’m not convinced, as everyone knows how much the politicians lie, I and many of elderly voters are very afraid that Trump and his advisor Musk will in fact cut the little compensation that we get right now, and believe me, we are going to be very pissed off. Protesting and other avenues of complaining aren’t going to help us. Most Americans like the way Trump is handling things, but he sure has been changing his mind a lot lately and I’m not convinced that he won’t cut social security and VA compensations. Convince me otherwise. 😤

Yet your own website declares that the SSA History Office is ‘discontinued’. There is no Historian listed anywhere that I can find in SSA. The Office is shut. Here’s a hint – lying, whilst publishing that an Office is ‘discontinued’ is not a good look.
