“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

I’m on SSDI still have not received my stimulas payment as of may 15th

I’ve been on SSDI for 10+ yrs, with benefits directly deposited into my bank account. Have had the same account since the late 90’s with no changes. Been at present address going on 13 yrs. I understand the payment is coming from the Treasury Dept., not SSA. However, there are beneficiaries I know that received their payment weeks ago, yet to date I (like many others) have received nothing. The IRS site is NOT helpful, as it states that folks like myself on SSDI with no children don’t need to do anything as the payment will be automatically deposited, yet doesn’t offer a way for us to track the payment or even find out when to expect it. What is the SSA doing to help ensure we receive the payment we were promised? And where can complaints about this issue be made?

There isn’t there is no answer at irs. the website is useless and if you do call its all atimated. You can’t get anywhere and social security says they can’t help us. We could try senate or house reps but I have tried everything else. They said may know maybe june or maybe not till next year. So it will be a christmas present because with the low gas prices even though everything else higher i bet we don’t get a raise for next year either.

As of 5/15 still have not received impact payment and I
Have always received my SSI thru direct deposit every 3rd of the month. My wife received hers on 5/23 and son and daughter received theirs 2nd week of April. I’m getting really worried because if it never comes there’s nothing I can do about it.

I still did not get my question answered. My dad did not get his direct deposit for the last two month. your search engine does not address this problem it just talks about coved-19. He lives in oregon and I (his daughter) am stuck in California. It seems we can not get help anywhere. It is a good thing he has some savings

Hi Jody, thanks for using our blog. If your dad did not receive his Social Security or SSI benefit, he should first contact his bank or financial institution. They may be able to determine if his direct deposit failed. If he still needs to report a late, missing or stolen Social Security payment, he needs to call us toll-free at 1-800-772-1213 for assistance or he can contact his local Social Security office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this information helps.

My name is Deborah Jean Stone. My monthly payment is 1120.00 due on the 15th.

I have been receiving benefits since January 2020. Almost all have been late.

Is there someone I can speak with to figure out why and fix the problem?

    Thank you

    • V.V.

Hi Deborah, thank you for using our blog. Benefits are not paid on the same date each month. If you are receiving benefits on your own Social Security record, it is your birthday that determines your payment date:
      Date of Birth Payment Day:
      1st through 10th Second Wednesday
      11th through 20th Third Wednesday
      21st through 31st Fourth Wednesday

Please go to Schedule of Social Security Payments for the current payment dates.

    • V.V.

Hi Brian, thank you for using our blog. It is Treasury, not Social Security, that will be making the automatic Economic Income Payments to eligible people. You may find the IRS Get My Payment Frequently Asked Questions web page helpful.
