“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

I am a single mom of 3 kids. I havent worked filed taxes in over two years. My youngest son is 17 he just turned 17 in January. He receives social security survivors benefits and I am his representative payee. I dont know much about that when it comes to this stimulus funds. At first I did the non filers and I thought since the benefits came in my name I had to claim them but I was later informed by social security that I had to put it in his name. Understandable, but I simply was not sure and I’m still unsure if I have done the right thing. He is a junior in High School. I went back and did a non filer for just me bc I have no income I am in the process of trying to get supplemental disability bc I have battled with severe panic disorder and major depression for over 20 plus years. I was awarded disability years ago but when I got approved I was working and actually doing ok but like always I shut down. We live with my mom. Their father and I were divorced when he passed away. I finally did the non filer and claimed him as a dependent bc he was under 17 yes of age last year. We get an SSA 1099 every year. I check the Get My Payment tool daily and it’s still somewhat unavailable it basically is saying is processing all the information bc we get my sons benefits on a direct express card which no account or routing number is anywhere to be found so I had already had a paypal so I linked my direct express to PayPal for the stimulus purpose and put the account and routing numbers in the non filer tool and it said it was successfully transmitted. So here we sit. My 20 year old did one of his own and his was also successfully transmitted. I am just confused as to why it’s taking so long and what the problem is bc I’m sure we aren’t the only ones in this situation. There is nobody to call or ask any questions so the confusion is ridiculous. I have read and have done my research on reliable sites not every little thing posted. If anyone has any kind of input or advice PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi Ginger, thank you for your question. The Internal Revenue Service, which is part of the Department of Treasury, will be making Economic Income Payments to eligible people. To help you quickly and easily determine whether you need to take any action to receive your Economic Impact Payment, or a payment for your qualifying child, check out the step-by-step instructions on the Social Security and Coronavirus web page.

When is eip forms or stimulous being sent to my payee dammit. Y u trying to screw us out of STIMULUS it was set up for poorest of pooor that stupid irs check status tool still. Broke. Ur tryin to use anybody with payee as reason to not pay. Im soon gonna be to be talking to attorneys bout. A discrimination. Suit. About that and stealing that money to give urself a raise. And fund trumps reelection

    • Ginger D.

So are you a representative payee as well? I am one for my kids well my youngest still gets social security survivors benefits and I dont work and haven’t filed taxes in over 2 years. I battle with severe panic disorder and depression among other things. I just posted my comment I am praying someone can give me some insight. I have done everything I know and was advised to do. The non filer tool, we used that. I know of 2 people off the top of my head who dont work and they have already gotten their check. I started working on this from the beginning. I was lost and confused. I believe I finally got it straight bc the irs finally successfully got my transmitted information. But the ” GET MY PAYMENT ” tool well it says it is processing my information. How long does it take. I had to put my paypal account numbers in bc direct express has no visible account or routing numbers. It’s been a mess.

      To WYU!
You should not have used the IRS check tool. If you filed a tax return by the internet you messed up. SSI recipients did not have to file a tax return. So if you filed a tax return or entered all your people’s information on the IRS tool that is your problem. No one was trying to cheat you. And it has nothing to do with President Trump’s reelection. You did it yourself. You jumped on the internet and filled out tax returns and placing all your people’s information on thpse tools. So therefore you will have to wait for the paper checls to be mailed. All SSI recipients were told not to fill out tax returns or use the IRS tool to check your stimulus payment. Yet you did. So therefore you will have to wait for all your checks to be mailed to you.

  9. Shirley m.

I’m on SSI and so is my son but my daughter isn’t on ssi how can I get the $500 for my kids if I never file for taxes? SSI isn’t required to file for taxes how can I get their money? I’m not smart to understand things that are happening and I need help with this, so can someone please help me understand on what’s going on and how do I collect their money… The SSI has all my information about me and my kids and my mother living under one roof but I’m not sure what to do next…

    • Candi

Go to the IRS website, it’s.gov and click where it says non filers info. click here. I am not sure about the deadline date to complete it at this time. The IRS set up the non filers application just for people like you who do not normally file taxes, but need to file in order to claim the 500 per child. I hope this helps you, I just waito help because I had seen that no one replied to you.
