“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

Hi Alvin, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

I receive SSDI checks every month via direct deposit for the last 15 yrs and have not received my stimulus check. I no longer have dependents so there was no need for me to do anything extra according to the IRS website. Why have I not received my check?

  7. Dolores C.

will I get a stimulus check because i was getting disability last year for 6 months and then i lost it. I am unable to work. I lost because my husband makes two much money for 2 people and we are just barely meeting all our bills. If I qualify for a check. My husband got one for 1200.00 dollars but that still was not enough. Thank you for your time

I am a Social Security Disability beneficiary. I got my stimulus payment 4/15. But then, I had my direct deposit info on file, my address was current & I filed my tax return on time. Most.people who have done any of those things should have received.their payment. It’s not Social Security’s. IRS, or the President’s fault if you don’t update your info. It isn’t hard to do.Might be a lesson gir some.

That’s updated with the SS office

    • James C.

If you read the IRS site it states if you are on SSDI and get direct deposite you do not need to do any thing your check will be put into your account. So that being said and the fact that the check my status tool still is not working for many and Gov sites posted my AIG and SSDI info showed I and many others would get check in our account on the 24th and now they say the 29th I can in fact say the system is broken and needs to be fixed.

      • James W.

I filled out my tax return for 2018 and 2019 but I owe the IRS will I get a check, I been checking but I keep getting the same response
        “payment status not available”

  10. James C.

Why does the IRS site still say no status avilable when I enter my Info I am on SSDI yet it still says not Info at this time yet was told my money would be in bank today.Getting a bit tired of people who dont need the help getting it yet it seems like people on SS and SSDI are getting the run around this is a case of those who have get and those who need are getting pushed aside.
