“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

I get SSDI direct deposited since 2006.
I filed 2018 & 2019 taxes, which are completed, refunds were direct deposited, with 2019’s refund coming on Feb 11.
Apparently the IRS is not using my 1099 status, nor my bank info- which my refund(s) used, and my SSDI still uses every month.
All the boxes were checked for my stimulus to have arrived last Wednesday, with the millions of others. So, as of April 23rd, IRS portal gives the message that…
“The checks in the mail on Apr 24th…

I’m on SSDI, also I’m in massive medical debt, medical bills growing out my eye sockets and telephone calls from medical debt collectors making me deaf let alone going insane. But whatever. I’m waiting for my payment to my direct express card, also. I know, you don’t want to hear it. We all have our own problems to deal with. What I find awful, is that people that worked  their whole life, two and three jobs, never once cheated on taxes, always claimed every penny earned, and was honest to a fault, and now that we good people need some extra help when times are very tough, we are in a group that is last on the list to receive it. This is what our wonderful elected officials think about us poor slobs. As one Washington politician struts around showing us her fancy new appliances and gourmet ice cream and chocolates, the rest of us are just about starving to death because we had to spend four times more on hand sanitizer, face masks, lysol and Clorox wipes for cleaning our covid 19 contaminated household etc. They also never miss a massive pay hike but we the undesirables are left out in the cold. It’s as though, our politicians want us all to work and pay them high salaries and then go crawl under a rock and croke. This being the case, maybe next time around come election day, we think long and hard on exactly what each politician did for us when we needed them most, and don’t vote for someone just because they are a member of a certain political party. That being said, everyone here is in the same boat, waiting for money to keep our heads above the water. Here is what has been posted by several agencies on payments:

  3. Noneofyabiz

This whole muthafuckin situation is stressing me out…I can’t even wipe my ass properly cause I don’t have TOLIET paper..I’m forced to use articles of clothing…the ones that need this the most it seems to be harder for us…on one hand they are saying use the non-filers tool and on the other hand they are saying you don’t need too…I can’t even input my bank account number with out having a credit card..so therefore I can’t get the fucking agi number or the exact amount..this whole shit is confusing..and I’m so fucking stressed out over it….my thing is ..if they (the treasury Dept) is working with ssa then why do we have to wait all the way till next MO when ssa know our direct deposit info..that’s how we receive our monthly benefits…shit I’m hearing even dead people got their damn money before us on SSI and SSDI…wtf man..this type of shit will drive a person insane especially dealing with this stay at home order …. government be quick to take money but slow as hell to give it

How are people who receive disability benefits from Social Security that have a Direct Express debit card and no banking account going to receive stimulus payment?

    • V.V.

Hi Rosemary, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

  9. Linda S.

    Hello
I have a sibling who is collecting social security disability payments via a debit card. He lost the card in March and applied for a new card.
What is the process by SSA regarding the time to replace the card? He has yet to receive the card and states the Government is delaying or holding the funds. Is that the case right now due to COVID 19?
He has no money and cannot afford to go without.
I am trying to understand the process in order to assist him

    • V.V.

Hi Linda, thank you for your question. Your sibling should call the Direct Express® card toll free Customer Service Department at 1(888)741-1115 (toll-free). A replacement card should arrive by standard mail within 7 to 10 days after reporting a lost card. We hope this helps.
