“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

  1. DEBRA

How is unemployment enhanced benefit treated for SSI and SSDI recipients?

    • V.V.

Hi Debra, thank you for your question. When receiving SSI, you need to report all of your income, including unearned income such as unemployment. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months. For more about reporting income, check out the online booklet, Understanding Supplemental Security Income. To report your income, you can call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or your local Social Security office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this information helps.

When receiving Social Security disability benefits, unemployment does not affect the benefits.

I’m on social security disability will I be getting a stimulus pay

    • V.V.

Hi Kenneth, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

I am on SSI and I have not received a check in my Bank and I am a live let me know when I will be getting it

    • V.V.

Hi Mary, thank you for your question. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making automatic Economic Income Payments to eligible people. Unfortunately, we do not have information about the exact schedule for these payments. Treasury anticipates these payments to go out to Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries starting around the end of April and to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients starting in early May. Continue to check the irs.gov/coronavirus page for updates.

My ex husband receives SSA, he owes back child support. Will I receive his stimulus check?

    • Aaaaaaaaa

No. It has been stated that an individual owing back child support will not receive a stimulus check. The statement said that a stimulus check will not be taken for back taxes or student loans, but on past due child support there are no exceptions

When will seniors get the stimulus money deposited in their accounts?

    • Jennifer H.

      Wondering the same!

    • Magnon

Apparently seniors don’t mean much to our government since they haven’t sent any stimulus money to SSA1099 recipients yet, but have sent lots of stimulus money to dead people! Typical government operation! They say they will do all this, but they conveniently never say when it will happen! A total FUBAR in my opinion!

  10. CLAUDIA J.

Do all individuals receiving Social Security retirement benefits receive a stimulus check? Regardless of their 2019 income? I cannot find a direct answer to this question

    • Jennifer H.

Did you file taxes or just received a 1099 form?

      • kenneth w.

        Just the 1099 form

    • V.V.

Hi Claudia, thank you for your question. Please visit the IRS Economic Impact Payments Information Center to answer your questions about eligibility, payment amounts, what to expect, when to expect it and more. Hope this helps!
