“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

Please, people be calm, be safe and don’t listen to people that have nothing better to do then spread fake news.
I hate to read when people are so evil and don’t stop to think that there are many disabled and old people living by themselves without anybody taking care of them.
Get informed and don’t listen to people that are only trying to cause suffering to others, because they are bored.
This is from IRS.gov where you can read all the latest on the Stimulus Check.
Eligible retirees and recipients of Social Security, Railroad Retirement, disability or veterans’ benefits as well as taxpayers who do not make enough money to normally have to file a tax return will receive a payment. This also includes those who have no income, as well as those whose income comes entirely from certain benefit programs, such as Supplemental Security Income benefits.
Retirees who receive either Social Security retirement or Railroad Retirement benefits will also receive payments automatically.

    God Bless us all.

If I receive SSI and my 12 year old receives SS benefits under mine, do I still need to file a non-filer return to claim her as a dependent ? I am her payee rep and received a 1099 for myself and also one for her . Thank you to anyone who can answer this .

    • S

      Yes you do

Hi Maria, thank you for using our blog. People who receive Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability insurance benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019, and who have qualifying children under age 17 and those receiving SSI who have qualifying children under age 17 need to go to the IRS’s webpage to enter your information instead of waiting for your automatic $1,200 Economic Impact Payment. By taking proactive steps to enter information on the IRS website about you and your qualifying children, you will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to your $1,200 individual payment.

Last I heard, if you go thru H and R Block or any other program like Turbo Tax, you may be sent a check and it will arrive by the 25th of April..

If you get a 1099 and have direct deposit, the irs gets the info from ssa. Remember, all federal agencies share data. SSA is giving the IRS data, and IRS will tell the US Treasury who to pay and how much. Their psychics the know everything about us. 😉 also if you see a message to call the irs, then I’d call the irs. You might need to verify your identity and reset your pin or pass. Ps: I’m still waiting for my direct deposit to my direct express. I’m guessing I’ll get it this Friday or next Friday at the latest.

  5. Ka

My question is for ssa office,How will the irs know that I use the direct express debit card from my SSA-1099 form? It does not show that on the form that I know of. I’m on ssdi. Will they use my social security number that’s on there?

    • V.V.

Hi Ka, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

I receive social security disability and I have 2 children under 17. I tried to go to IRS non filers website to enter my info but I keep getting a error to enter a IP Pin. I tried applying for one or recovering one but, It says that I have to call IRS. HOW DO I GET MY STIMULUS PAYMENT IF I CANT ENTER MY INFO

  7. George C.

Like me, You’ll just have to wait for it. I’ve been on SSDI much longer than that, and about $770,000. in medical bills, and I have direct express also. I posted a schedule of when payments will be made, above. When you get the payment depends on your income. So, like me, if you make more than the other lower income people that got their pay already, you have to wait for your turn. The treasury is dealing with a massive load of people to pay and they can only process so many at one time. This weekend should be more deposits being made and checks going out. April 24th is what was in that schedule I posted, followed by more going out every Friday thereafter. Hope this helps. 🙂

Why are some people being told on ssdi who have the ssa1099 form there getting a check? For the stimulusThought we got to have it put on our direct express card. IRS has my ssa1099 form now I’m afraid I’ll end up with a check I wont b able to cash. I have no bank account cause my benif go on my direct express card. I’m now worried sick about this. It’s mostly people who use the get my payment tool or claiming there kids. Thought ssdi also were geting on there direct express card? I know the treasury has this info cause they put our benifits on that card, cant get a straight answer please help me!
