“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

One more tidbit of info, if your on SSI and want the $500.00 extra per dependent child, you do have to add that on that IRS GET MY PAYMENT website. According to what I read, and according to the social media groups I chatted with. If the IRS and or Social Security have your info and bank info then just be patient. If your required to file a tax return this year get it done and fast so you won’t have to wait till the 12th of never to be paid.

Direct Express cardholders will get paid in near future along with everyone else. I have direct express also. Read my other posts on this page for timing.

  3. George C.

If you provided Social Security your banking info for direct deposit, the IRS will be able to get that from Social Security and you’ll get paid via direct deposit.SSDI by end of April and SSI in early May.

I am still waiting too, but from reading this website over the past several days and multitudes of other government websites, from what I’ve read, SSDI or DISABILITY recipients will receive their direct deposits NO LATER THAN THE END OF APRIL. and SSI or Supplemental Security recipients will receive their direct deposits in early May. We should all be happy with this latest update since the original timeframe for getting a payment was stretched over the next several months Hopefully nothing else goes wrong with the system and we will all finally get paid, I’ve got medical bills growing out my eyeballs and I’m being hounded for payments. Also, you do NOT have to file a claim to receive a payment if you are on SSDI and you do not have to file a tax return, if you do have to file a tax return then get it filed now so you can get your payment. If you have direct deposit, and your on SSDI, and you don’t have to file taxes, then sit back *I know. I’m anxious to get paid too* and try to relax. Another week or two. Hopefully. SSI will be paid in early May.

Where’s our money??? For ssdi direct express card holders :'(

Hi Danielle, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

There is a lot of confusion about the SS and SSDI checks. Some sites say we did something wrong if we have not received payments. Most of the people are retirees or on SSDI like myself and have not received one red penny from the Stimulus benefit. Are we going to get it/ There are no numbers to call for clarification. I have no earned income for filing income tax returns as many of peers? I feel we are being toyed with and set up Are we?

Thank you. I accidentally put all my information in where it says to get my payment and started a filing process. I am so confused. I hope it does not hold it up. I have to tried to put my information and I don’t want to hold up my check. I have had all kinds of advice but none as reliable as this Did I mess up the check coming with the others because I put my name in the site and then removed it and deleted the file because then I learned I didn’t have to file. I have had more expense than usual. Please forgive me if I sound disrespectful. I don’t mean to be and I don’t want to be. Would you advise if I held up my stimulus by monkeying around on the IRS site when I didn’t comprehend? Thank you

2020 is my first year getting Social Security benefits. Will the IRS be able to get my banking information to deposit my stimulus check. The Get My Payment option can’t even find me and I filed 2018 taxes, it also won’t let you enter your banking information.
