“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

I have searched and searched on the link you provided , and haven’t found the answer to whether my payment will be with my husband’s, since he is on SSI and we filed jointly. Can you help? It feels like being left stranded when we can’t call and the Question/Answer list doesn’t address this.

Hi Kari, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

Hello, question , I received a non filers form status of “ return approved” but processing for eligibility. Tax topic 152. And I was told I no further need to take action. I was claimed as a permanently disabled 24 year old, by my mother. My mother filed head of household, I receive SSI benefits, do not work, and do not file taxes. I did file the Non- Filers form. My status still say Approved. What does this actually mean? Everyone is saying I wouldn’t receive a stimulus check for $1200, but I have been “approved, processing eligibility, tax topic 152. No further action needed.” Help please?

I am a enderly 74 year old. I live with my son. I get a social security check. I do not make enough to pay taxes. My son claims me as a dependent on his taxes. My son got check for his son, but did not get a check for me. Why did that happen?. His son is 16 and got a check for him. He is also a dependent on my son’s taxes. So why did my son not get a check for me.

I have not received the stimulus check.

Did not file taxes 2018 or 2019
    My SSI is Direct Deposited
Is there a form I must send to receive?

    Thank You

  7. Steven E.

I’m on SSI, they told us we had to file our taxes, so I filed on the TurboTax stimulus website on April 4th, the IRS approved it about a half hour later. Today I checked my bank and received my $1200 stimulus deposit listed as:IRS TREAS 310 TYPE: TAX REF ID: with some numbers followed by: CO: IRS TREAS 310

  8. Maria F.

I filled out the IRS filler form cause that is what we were told to do and I don’t have dependents and I am on SSI now they are saying we are getting the payment automatically will that mess me up and will I still get my stimulus check check? Can someone answer my question please

  9. Frank

No check yet. Went to its.gov to find out why and the say my info doesn’t match their records or my bank account info doesn’t match nor my wife’s doesn’t match. I have filed electronically for over 15 years and always use direct deposit. I also receive direct deposit of my social security. Whats going on? Can’t get answers.

The SS Commissioner states, “The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.” I have a situation where I receive SS retirement benefits by direct deposit, but still filed a 2019 Income Tax return with $0 balance due. Therefore, I did not enter Direct Deposit information with that 1040 filing.

I tried to enter direct deposit information on the IRS “Get My Payment” website, but it only offers an option for “owed” or “refund.” When I attempted to enter a $0 balance owed and my bank account information, I rec’d an error 109. Many people have gotten this error and they have started a thread in the r/IRS topic on Reddit about it.

Is the IRS aware of this bug? Will the IRS just use my Social Security bank account information, or do I HAVE to enter this information on the IRS portal, because I filed a 2019 return?

Any help from an IRS or SS representative monitoring these comments would be welcome, since we can’t call in to the IRS at this time.

    Thank you!!

Hi there. We hope this is helpful.

Thank you for the reply, Vonda.

Are you SURE this is true, even though I filed a $0 due 2019 income tax return with the IRS, with NO direct deposit information? I’m afraid that this lack on DD info on tax return is overriding the info on file with SSA.

Do you know what the Error 109 means on the IRS portal?

      • PokerBeing

        Hi Vonda,

I just wanted to let you know to help you address this with other beneficiaries, the IRS “Get My Payment” portal now says that I will be MAILED a check on April 24. So, I believe the fact that I filed a zero balance due tax return for 2019 superseded the direct deposit information on file with SSA, and the IRS opted to send a paper check instead.

        Thank you.
