“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

When people are claimed on someone taxes don’t mean they are disabled. In my case I am retired and live with my son. He don’t help me I still have to pay rent, part of every thing in the home . Bu the government is saying I don’t need help. He not helping me. If the government can see dead people check. And when did a the age 17 to19 become a adult. The government is the reason we are in this. BUT DEPENDENTS DON,T MATTER

Hello, I receive Social security benefits and was claimed as a dependent on someone else’s taxes, the story is, I am 24 and permanently disabled that’s how I was claimed on someone else taxes that ended up processing their Tax file as Head of Household. (This is my mother, who claimed me) I do not work because I cannot work due to my disability. and I do not file taxes I have filed a form for the non filers and have been approved but the message under that approval statement is saying I still have to wait until further notice something about eligibility. What does this mean? Is there a exception to receive the refund for dependents in my situation??

I am age 39 and in the same scenario mentioned above.
When you fill out the tool Get My Payment, it says Payment information unavailable or Please Try Again Later and locks me out and refers me to the same link you mentioned. To do more research, I found this site: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/how-to-use-the-tools-on-irsgov-to-get-your-economic-impact-payment. For someone receiving SSI or (SSDI), the individual does not have to use the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here. If we ever have any more global situations in the near future, please SSA claim ownership and directly assist us because you’re familiar with each recipient oh how and when we’re paid.

RE: ECONOMIC IMPACT PAYMENT Please help me. If you cannot help me, please advise who I should contact. Thank you very much. 1) I “am eligible” to receive this payment, yet the Treasury Dept states the following, and I quote, “Need More Information, You are eligible for this payment. We do not have enough information to direct deposit your payment at this time.”
    2) My Social Security check has been “directly deposited” into my bank account “for several years.” This confirms that the Social Security Dept. has my bank information. And Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul has stated that if my Social Security check is directly deposited, which it is, then my ECONOMIC IMPACT PAYMENT will be directly deposited into that same account. Again, I need your help. Many thanks in advance for all of your help. Martha C Fildes

Hi Martha, thank you for using our blog. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. Hopefully this helps.

I have a disabled child who receives SS. I am his protective payee and it is directly deposited in my account. I also have legal custody of my grandson who receives “child only TANF”. This is our only income. Both children are 14 and under.
I’m confused about how much we will receive. Since I’m not on SSI and have no income because I’m his caregiver, will we receive the $1200 plus $500 for each child? Do I need to do anything to receive this? I’ve looked every where I could think of but I’ve found nothing that directly addresses my situation. Any help would be appreciated.

I tried to update the IRS information on my children but when I try to create an account one of the lines that is included in creating an account is “user ID” and I dont have one. It won’t allow you to create an account without a user ID. Which doesn’t make any sense. If you click on the link to create an account you will see what I mean.

  7. Juliana R.

Please help! Hello I’m juliana please help! I am on ssi and was claimed as dependent on my moms taxes she filed head of household, but she did not receive any funding/ extra money for claiming me. I do not file taxes . I filled out the non filers form and checked the box that states I was claimed as a dependent on someone’s taxes. My non filers form was still Approved immediately. I recieved a confirmed email stating that I was approved but that I would have to wait 72 hours / Wait , to be eligible it says Approved but to wait for eligibility. Does this mean I will receive the $1200. ???? Please help!

My husband passed away in August of last year. You sent me a direct payment of an extra $1200 for him. What do I do about this money? Can it just be withdrawn from the account by you or should I mail it back in?
