“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

I receive SSDI and owe Child Support Arrears, ONLY, that are up-to-date (paid), until these past 2 months. I find it to be unjust for the Dept. Of Treasury and IRS, to take my EIP stimulus check due to the Court System’s failure to Vacate or Modify a Decrease the, every 6 months Court updates, throughout the long SSDI waiting process. These Arrears go to the Welfare Agency, not my child. I had to be on Welfare for survival and the required, exempt from work or work activity’s MED1 Form and to keep out of jail. Not to mention, the Courts gave the father custody without my knowledge of a Court Appearance, I wasn’t aware of for 5 years. Tell me that’s Justice?! I tried contacting the S.S. Office, IRS, Dept. Of Treasury, President Trump, and NJ’s Governor Murphy. I got NO response! Can I appeal this???

    • Mary S.

You will NOT receive stimulus if you owe any back child support at all.

I am on Social Security and because of the frozen economy she can’t find work, we need help can she get a stimulus check? if so how do we let the IRS know her bank account number?

    • It

You won’t get one for her, she will be a credit for next years taxes

      • Mary S.

Not the only one. Ive still received nothing either.

        • George C.

Thanks Mary. Hopefully soon, I have RX’s to fill and stacks of medical bills. 🙂

Hi, so does this mean the children who are receiving survival benefits for their deceased parent(s) will get a separate stimulus payment? Even though their living parent and or guardian already received their stimulus payment for the child?

  7. tina

I receive SSI I was told to go to the IRS website and fill out the Non Filer Form later when I check back at IRS I was told We are unable to determine if your eligible. When I receive the stimulus payment or not? Will it be automatic send to my account?

    • James B.

Yes we will. Sometime early may.
That message is a generic one. The system is crashing

  8. tina

I receive SSI and was told to go to the IRS website enter my information as a non- filer of tax when I check back to find out when I would receive payment IRS said There are unable to determine if am eligible. What does that mean? Are people on SSI going receive payment?

  9. Tara

Is the people on SSI getting that money yes or no

  10. cynthia j.

I’m retired. worked and paid taxes for nearly 50 years. My SS is direct deposited, but I haven’t seen it yet while I’ve heard others have rec’d theirs. I don’t get enough in SS or my very small pension to owe any taxes state or fed, but I saw that those of us whose ss is direct deposited will recv the stimulus via direct deposit..When should it be there????

    • V.V.

Hi Cynthia, thank you for using our blog to ask your question. Treasury, not Social Security, will make these payments. We do not have information about the schedule for these payments. The IRS will provide additional information at http://www.irs.gov/coronavirus.

      • Kari

Well it says on the ssa website ssi gets it automatically now and can send on direct express card treasury ssud do today

      • Kevin W.

Yeah but they ain’t saying when.

        Nice try.

Useless info from the government as always.

The only reliable government agency left is the FCC.
