“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

Major glitch in the new tracking tool from what the news is about to tell on upcoming reports. I’m still waiting too and the system still says unable to determine whether I am eligible to receive a payment.

So I’m confused do I need to file a 1099 or other tax form so they have my banking info or not. Will they just use the Direct Deposit information associated with my SS accouñ? I could really use this extra $ as I’m sure most SSA recipients do as well. Any delays that can be averted beforehand would really most appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.

Thank you for your question, Donald. Economic impact payments will be made to eligible people who receive Social Security retirement, disability, or survivors benefits. The IRS will use the SSA-1099 information that we provide them to automatically generate $1,200 economic impact payments to eligible Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019. Please visit http://www.irs.gov/coronavirus to learn more. We hope this is helpful.

If u are the payee for someone ssi disability do u receive a stimulus check

      • Tina

How can we file our children under 17? The nonfilers doesn’t give the option for direct express card it only has the option for bank acct/routing number or by check? I’m so confused and this is causing so much anxiety in me.

        • V.V.

Hi Tina, for those SSI and Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries, with dependent children, who use Direct Express debit cards, additional information will be available soon regarding the steps to take on the IRS website when claiming children under 17. Please continue to check the IRS Economic Impact Payments web page for additional details when available.

  7. J.P.

If you have a representative payee how will funds be dispersed?

  8. Chameeka T.

So has anyone who did not file and is on ssdi get their check yet.

  9. Kerry M.

I receive SSDI and work part-time. My employer (Walmart) wants me to work more. Will I lose my benefits if I work more due to the virus ‘essential employee’?

    • Chameeka T.

Yes you will you can only make over a certain amount be for they cut you of I believe its like no more the 800$

    • V.V.

Hi Kerry, thank you for your question. Social Security has special rules that make it possible for people with disabilities receiving Social Security Disability (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) to work and still receive monthly payments. These are called work incentives.

For SSDI beneficiaries, there is a Trial Work Period (TWP) and then an Extended Period of Eligibility (EPE). The TWP allows you to test your ability to work for at least 9 months. During this period, you will receive your full disability benefit regardless of how much you earn as long as your work activity is reported and you continue to have a disabling impairment. In 2020, any month in which earnings exceed $910 is considered a month of the 9-month trial work period.

Once you’ve completed your TWP, you get a 36-month safety net called the EPE. During the EPE, you get benefits for all months your earnings or work activities are below the Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) level as long as you continue to have a disabling impairment. Social Security will suspend cash benefits for months earnings are over SGA and start benefits again if earnings fall below the SGA level. In 2020, you are earning SGA if your earnings, after any allowable deductions, are more than $1,260 in a month.

Check out Social Security’s Red Book for descriptions of the many work incentives.

  10. Fuck y.

Hey fuckers im 18 and a dependent but I was hoping to get a damn check to pay for my bills and shit you know because everything is fucking closed so im out of work. So what im asking is if I don’t get a check am I just fucked. Isn’t the purpose of these checks to help the people that need it? Welp im one of those people and im not getting one. Also isn’t this why we have a government to help its people through tough times? welp I need help and the government isn’t doing its damn job.

    • Trey H.

I’m 29 and a dependent like you. My dad claims me. I won’t get anything either. It sucks.

      • Tiff

        Don’t feel bad guys I don’t get one either and I’m 30

        • Help m.

I honestly think the IRS basis it off the situation, I am 24 and get claimed depended through my moms taxes she claims head of household. But I have been documented with a permanent disability, receive SSI, I was wondering the same. I filed the NON FILERS FORM through irs website and I receive a confirmation email saying I was approved, I did have to check the box that day I was claimed as a dependent on someone’s taxes, the approval email I received states I have to wait 72 hours for processing eligibility. Idk what that means I’ve been waiting forever for another email. I hope we do receive depending on our situations.
