Commissioner of Social Security Shares Update about COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments for Beneficiaries

“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.
The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.
Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

So, im on ssi…but still confused to whether or not i need to apply a checking acct for the deposit or see if they put it on direct express card. I just dont wanna be the one who doesnt get the info to them and have to wait months to get a “check”…i do NOT have checking acct but was going to use my nephews checcking acct for my deposit…and still not sure if they wld even go for that…if anyone hears FOR SURE they are putting it on the direct express card, please post it on here! Regarding Direct Express Account Numbers and Routing Info…
Comerica doesn’t have that info. They just print up the debit cards. They aren’t Direct Express. I called and asked.
Direct Express has that info, but they don’t have the authority to give you that info. I called and asked.
Social Security Administration has that info, but might not have the Authority to give you that info. I have not been able to get through when I call.
The I.R.S. has access to that info under certain circumstances, but I have yet to call them and figure out the details. They probably won’t give out that info either.

u have to go to irs site fill there simple tax form and give info good luck getting the tracking numbers and bank number but u have to fill form to get check came today if u dont give info u will get check and if u dont fill outthe simple tax credit u wont get check so go to irs site and make sure to fill out form again just came on site today fianlly

Im also on SSI. It sure wld make things so much easier if they wld deposit on direct express. Also, someone said we have to file…i went to IRS.gov and took the lil test they have to determine if i NEED TO FILE and the answer is NO! Because we make less than what is requited to file…
