“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

I get SSI and got 1200 from stimulous on may thirteeth 2020. My problem is, I usually have an ending balance of four hundred at end of month. With the payment on the first of the month of 775. My ending balance on the last day of the month was 1550. Next day, got another 775 from ,SSI which brought my balance up to 2350 which is over the SSI limit . It stayed there for eight days then started to go down. The 1200 is supposably not counted as an asset or resource for twelve months. This next month , I had a total of 1440 last day of the month which the next day was the first of the month , got a payment of 775 again which brought the balance of 2150.
The fact is I really didn’t know of the 2000 limit. The SSI said that I should be ok because the money that brought it up to these over limit balances is because of the 1200 I got earlier and of those balances, the over limit balances are to be subtracted 1200 for both months because 1200 is not considered an asset or resource. Is this right. ? I’ve been extremely paranoid , nervous and having major anxiety issues worrying about this. For the lady at ssa I had talked to , because I had talked to her the other day as she wAs doing my redetermination for the year. I screwed up in telling her my balance . I’m so afraid they are going to disqualify me with a letter from my balances. Does anyone know about any of this delimma . ? Thanks
