“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

I am retired and 12 year old daughter and my wife is not working. I have received $1200. by direct deposit. We didn’t file taxes in 2018 or 2019 because we are living on my retirement. How do we get money for my wife and daughter? We are in need of what the government is giving to help us out. Thank you in advance !!!

It’s Monday the 18th and I am still waiting for my stimulus check there’s no deposit no updates they keep on saying next week next week I keep on checking with the IRS portal nothing happens it keeps on telling me they have no information on me not enough or something else and I did receive SSI and Social Security and I still have not received a stimulus payment the dates they have given the websites have came and gone and I still have nothing what do I do keep waiting

    • Shawn

I been waiting since they started sending them out haven’t recieved mine yet

    • Candice

The IRS updated the stimulus info on the 15th. Payments should start being deposited near the end of May. SSA site updated the info on their site last week also. It states the same thing payments should start being received around the end of May. They are doing the payments in waves still as far as I know, so some people will receive theirs the end if May some a little later. I don’t think they have a date set for mailing out the checks yet though. This is for people who have a payee also. I think the main problem is people want an exact date. That’s like asking for too much in my opinion. It’ll happen when it does and if it doesn’t, well that’ll suck. Life will go on though. Whether that is fortunate or unfortunate for whoever is not the government’s problem. I know people want to blame someone, but it won’t help anything.
