woman on laptopIn December, Social Security will launch a new service for my Social Security account holders where the public can check on the status of an application for benefits or an appeal filed with us.

The service will provide detailed information about retirement, disability, survivors, Medicare, and Supplemental Security Income claims and appeals filed either online on our website or with a Social Security employee.

The ability to check your application status will be available online to everyone who has or opens a secure personal my Social Security account. You can open an account on our website.

The service will provide important information about your claim or appeal, including, as appropriate:

  • Date of filing.
  • Current claim location.
  • Scheduled hearing date and time.
  • Incomplete applications.
  • Servicing office location.
  • Claim or appeal decision.

If you are unable to open a personal my Social Security account, you can still call 1-800-772-1213 to check your claim status by using our automated system using the confirmation number you received when you filed your claim.

Providing our customers with more claim status information helps us meet our goal of delivering innovative, quality services to you and helping secure today and tomorrow.

I hate this system. I completed my hearing with the ALJ on 7/27/17. Under “my social security ” online, it lists “view decision”, and when I click that it says you have a decision on your appeal and then reads, you have been denied. The date on it reads 7/26/17. A day before my hearing. So is this my administrative hearing result or is it my initial claim? The level says “hearing.” However, I was told by the judge, at the hearing he was going to approve it and expedite my claim. Why is it formatted like this? I have no idea if I now have been denied!

Hi, Carol. Unfortunately, but for security reasons, we do not have access to personal records in this blog. Please contact your local Social Security office directly to expedite resolution of your situation. If you are unable to visit the local office, you can call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213, representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Generally, you will have a shorter wait time if you call later in the day. Thanks.

I had a hearing on 7/24 and it’s still with the writers. I don’t have a decision and next Monday will be 12 weeks…. SMH! My online account says your hearing was held and it’s waiting decision from the ALJ.

Hello- I want to create a M Social Security sight for my Autistic adukt son.
I am his legal gaurdian- he cant create his own account because he only functions at a 5 year old level.
On the website it states : You can only create an account using your own personal information and for your own exclusive use.

You cannot create an account on behalf of another person or using another person’s information or identity, even if you have that person’s written permission.

What if the person is incapable of creating an account? Can I do it for him?

It doesn’t make any sense that I am the lawyer in fact (POA) for my wife who was disabled on 2/28/2014, and I cannot administrate her acct. I’m trying to file for medicare disability (turned 65 yesterday), and although this would be the best way to do it, it’s too limiting. We went to the local ss office, waited in line for an hour, to be told she doesn’t qualify b/c she needs 40qtrs but only has 30qtrs. They never gave us any paperwork/ official letter of denial, yet now my retirement healthcare has dropped her 11/30/2016 without this official denial! ugghhhh

    • Ray F.

Hello Mr. Conley, thank you for your comment. Individuals are eligible for Medicare based on their work records or on their spouse’s work records. However, your wife has the right to file an application for Medicare benefits and receive an official denial of her claim from Social Security, which will provide her appeals rights, if in case she wants to seek legal advice to verify our decision. Please call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213 and ask one of our representatives to help you schedule an appointment. Representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
On a side note Sir, Social Security does not recognize “Power of Attorneys”.

What I dont understand is that a Judge declares you disabeled and social security starts paying you till you turn 65 but start taking back that money you earned and payed , into retirement and take away medical. The only benifit you got as disabeled. Now that retirement goes to medicines, doctors and hospitals. What are you supposed to eat. GRASS.
