woman on laptopIn December, Social Security will launch a new service for my Social Security account holders where the public can check on the status of an application for benefits or an appeal filed with us.

The service will provide detailed information about retirement, disability, survivors, Medicare, and Supplemental Security Income claims and appeals filed either online on our website or with a Social Security employee.

The ability to check your application status will be available online to everyone who has or opens a secure personal my Social Security account. You can open an account on our website.

The service will provide important information about your claim or appeal, including, as appropriate:

  • Date of filing.
  • Current claim location.
  • Scheduled hearing date and time.
  • Incomplete applications.
  • Servicing office location.
  • Claim or appeal decision.

If you are unable to open a personal my Social Security account, you can still call 1-800-772-1213 to check your claim status by using our automated system using the confirmation number you received when you filed your claim.

Providing our customers with more claim status information helps us meet our goal of delivering innovative, quality services to you and helping secure today and tomorrow.

I requested an overpayment appeal back in August, 2020; you all received my documents on 8/5/2020, it has been 6 month. I spoke to several reps before I had a phone appointment scheduled with a rep on 12/02/2020 and was told she would have to send my appeal to the processing center because they make the decisions, and here it is 1/06/2021 and I still have not heard or received anything. Seems like the rep or somebody could keep me updated by a phone call or email. You all did not overpay me, I only worked 2 mons and 1 week in 2019 and all of my documents are there in front of you to prove it. This is ridiculous to take 6 months for one little email or letter in the mail to say approved or denied. (Senior citizen waiting for an honest answer).

My application for disability was denied before I completed the application. I can’t access the partial online document and don’t remember what I had submitted. I have multiple health problems and was still deciding which to submit. I called and was told to file forms but none address my situation. How can this be fixed?

  7. CHARLENE D.

Re my 12/24/20 inquiry, I have called into Social Security and they are looking into it. A lot of delay is due to the coronavirus pandemic. I appreciate the good customer service. You all are essential.

About a month ago. I sent a SS retirement overpayment check in the mail via the green envelope provided. It has yet to subtract from my bank account. It would be nice to be able to see a status on that! I had a 30 day deadline, absent filling an appeal, or you all were to begin taking my regular monthly check due to come in two weeks until the balance is paid. (Note: I agree to the amount owed.) Should I stop payment on the check? Why is it taking so long to credit? I cannot afford an error of u all taking
my monthly SS check along with then cashing the check I sent…

    • Kenny O.

Hi Charlene, thanks for using our blog. Unfortunately, your question is a bit more complex than we can handle in this forum. For your security, we do not have access to information about your record. We ask that you continue to work with your local office regarding this issue. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this helps.

I sent a SS retirement overpayment check in the green envelope provided a month ago. It has yet to subtract from my bank account. It would be nice to know the status if that so my next SS check due in 2 weeks won’t be taken as threatened. I don’t know if I should stop payment on the check because I cannot afford you all taking both funds.

The 17th of each month is cut off for submitting changes to your ss account 95%of the time. Been there over many different issues over years 24. So check date you sent back and verify by phone or in person that they have recieved it and possible out comes if they havent. Otherwise expect the worst and prepare. Getting an emergency check from local office to pay bills is a diffucult task it can be done. If you need help and this happens email me ill help. tgo5353@gmail.com

How do you prove that you do not receive a pension and will never be eligible to receive a pansion?

    • Kenny O.

Hi Pam, thanks for using our blog. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to get a benefit verification letter. This letter is sometimes called a budget letter, a benefits letter, a proof of income letter or a proof of award letter. You also may be able to request a benefit verification letter by using our automated telephone service at 1-800-772-1213. You can conduct the automated services 24 hours a day. At the prompt, indicate that you’re requesting a proof of income letter. We hope this helps.

She didnt ask that and im sure info was completly usless. Sorry but I had same problem. My benifitamount lower not approved for ssi benifits because showed I was eiligible for pension. Which i wasnt and never will be. Took 7 years to finally get what i was entitled to back 2002. When i first applied.
Important pam, they need a letter from where ever they say your eligible for penson came from. Be it school distric or a private. Co. Saying you are not eligible for a pension based on your work record and wont be. My verification was done by phone call to benifits department by a social security employe while I was there in office. They con fermed and emidiatly gave and approved my benfts and entitlements. You have to make them do there jobs tell in writing or ask for supervisior to verify pension. Something no one knows or very few. They have a matching system tells them if clients are in a co. That offers pension does not give them egibility info or pension qualifications. So scandulus i believe they assume you are or will get pension and all your rights to benifits change because of this. I hope you get this if u want more info or help email me tgo5353@gmail.com
