My retirement application status says I’m in step 2 of 3 and normally takes 2 to 4 weeks. It’s been 10 weeks and no changes to my status, or emails wanting more info. What gives and what should I do, if anything ? Thx

My application for survivors benefits is in progress. However, I received a letter that outlined the the answers to the questions I gave during my phone interview. One question, about my deceased spouses previous marriage, is incorrect. The letter says I have 10 days to contact my local office and notify them of the incorrect information. However, my local office is not accepting phone calls due to high call volume, it just keeps saying to call back an another time. What should I do?

Its been six weeks now and no contact has been made to me. It says its a rep in Chicago, Il is reviewing my application. I called the main office, after about 30 mins the person gives me this other number that they said is a direct number to the Chicago field office to which no one answered. Can you help or advise?

Personal loans have become one of the most popular aspects during a financial crisis. Traditionally personal loans were offered by banks but in recent times, lenders have made the procedures user-friendly and you can apply for a personal loan online.

Trying since July to sign up for Spousal Benefits; have made many calls to SSA – each time, “they’ll call me to set up an appointment”
Still have not heard; I call regularly; most times am cut off while on hold. This morning, for example, I’ve called 4 times….on hold now.
Please advise if I can complete this process on line

        • Patty

Hi Gayle. Thank you for your question.  To qualify for spouse’s benefits, your spouse must be receiving retirement or disability benefits.  Also, if you qualify for Social Security benefits on your own record we pay that amount first. If your benefits as a spouse are higher than your own benefits, you will get a combination of benefits equaling the higher spouses benefit.  However, keep in mind that a spouse’s benefit cannot exceed one-half of the worker’s full retirement amount (not their reduced benefit amount). Check out our Benefits for Your Spouse web page for more information.

Check out our Apply for Social Security Benefits web page which provides the details on applying for Retirement or Spouse’s Benefits. We hope this is helpful!

  10. Patricia B.

I turned 65 in March 2021. I applied for RSDI and SSDI in September 2021. I was not approved for SSDI with an effective date of 12/2021. The letter said I did not meet documentation for disability until 12/2021. However no detailed explanation of what records that was. In order to see if I want to appeal the begin date I need to know what they used. How can I get verification of what they used?

    • Patricia B.

Sorry I meant that I was approved for The disability part with effective date of 12/2021.
