Check the Status of Your Social Security Benefits Claim Online

If you don’t have an account, you can create one to see the following information about your claim:

  • Date of filing.
  • Current claim location.
  • Scheduled hearing date and time.
  • Incomplete applications.
  • Servicing office location.
  • Publications of interest, depending on the claim and current step in the process.

Use your personal my Social Security account to check the status of your application or appeal. If you have questions about retirement, disability, Medicare, or survivors benefits, as well as Supplemental Security Income, visit our Benefits page.

      Hi Susan. Thanks for using our blog. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to get a benefit verification letter. This letter is sometimes called a budget letter, a benefits letter, a proof of income letter or a proof of award letter. You also may be able to request a benefit verification letter by using our automated telephone service at 1-800-772-1213. You can conduct the automated services 24 hours a day. At the prompt, indicate that you’re requesting a proof of income letter.

    I want to apply for my husband’s Spousal support but I don’t have a birth certificate how do I go about doing this

      Hi Barbara. If you are referring to spouses benefits, we need proof of marriage.  A birth certificate only shows proof of age. In order to receive spousal benefits, your spouse must be currently receiving retirement or disability benefits.  Also, if you qualify for Social Security benefits on your own record we pay that amount first. If your benefits as a spouse are higher than your own benefits, you will get a combination of benefits equaling the higher spouses benefit.  However, keep in mind that a spouse’s benefit cannot exceed one-half of the worker’s full retirement amount (not their reduced benefit amount).     I was recently approved for social security at the same time they are not going to give me my benefits for i am still working. Question is do I need to let them know the date I plan on retiring, to start receiving my benefits.. Thanks

    Hello, I have not received my quarterly premium payment from social security. Where do I need to go or who do I need to contact to get my premium paid so that I am not dropped from social security and lose my coverage. Thank you, James Armstrong Sr

      Hi James. Thank you for your question.  It sounds like you are referring to your quarterly Medicare billing statement. If you get Social Security, Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) or Civil Service benefits, your Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) premiums will get deducted from your benefit payment.

      If you don’t get Social Security payments, RRB, or Civil Service benefits, you’ll get a bill called a “Medicare Premium Bill” (CMS-500). Medicare offers four ways to pay your Medicare bill.

      If you have any questions about your Medicare premium bill, call Medicare at 1-800-MEDICARE.
