  6. Sheri W.

How do I know the status of my account if nothing is no longer there? I was at Step 3 for the longest. Now all of a sudden, no steps are present. All is there is something about assigning someone to handle my funds just in case I can’t . I called SSA and all they know is that it’s pending. I already I knew that it was pending.
    Thanks

    • Ann C.

Hi, Sheri. It sounds like you are referring to your personal my Social Security account. If so, and you are still unable to create an account or encounter a problem with your personal my Social Security account, you can call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. At the voice prompt, say “help desk.” We hope this helps.

      • Robert J.

Ann, reading Sheri Wanless’ question I do not believe you answered her question. I know because I am experiencing the same thing that Sheri is. I applied for ss retirement benefits over a month ago. For 3 weeks the ss web site showed my application was “pending” at step 2. Then the next day there was no indication I even applied, i.e., no steps. I got a form letter back soon after I applied and it said to call the Abuquerque office to provide more information. I called and left messages at the extension provided over 20 times over the past 3 weeks. No one picks up and no one returns my calls. I called the general ss number 800-772-1213 and was able to talk to a human pretty quickly. They said that in my account it was noted someone tried to reach me on 19July but I never got a call or email. (I checked my call log.) This process and lack of communication is rather pathetic.

What is the status for an income increase for surviors on SSA?

    • Ann C.

Hi, Joan. It sounds like you are referring to a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA). We will not know if there will be a COLA for 2022, and if so the amount of the COLA, until the Department of Labor releases information on inflation for the past year. For the latest news and updates on Social Security, please check out our page here. Thanks!
