Social Security Administration LogoWe are excited to share a preview of our new website coming this year.

SSA.gov is one of our most important tools for providing service. You told us we need to make it simpler and easier to use. So, we created a new design. It was shaped by information we gathered from customer interviews. We looked more closely at how our customers seek information online, and new design best practices.

The new design – we call it our beta website – seeks to improve your online experience, so you can get to the information and services you need faster. We also include new interactive tools, like our new benefit eligibility screener. It’s a convenient way to learn if you might be eligible for benefits, without needing to know what benefit programs are available from Social Security.

We want your feedback

Your opinion is very important to us. We invite you to explore our beta website at beta.ssa.gov and to use the “Feedback” button on the right side of the screen to tell us what you think. You can visit the website on your computer, tablet, and smartphone.

The beta website is a work in progress. Some links you select may take you to webpages on the current SSA.gov. Also, we are still working on the Spanish-language version of the beta website.

What’s next?

We plan to use the feedback we receive from you over the next few months to improve the beta website. Later this year, we will replace the current SSA.gov with the beta website’s design and information.

Thank you in advance for looking at the beta website and sharing your feedback!

    Hello.

I have an Individal Taxpayer Identification Number – ITIN number, issued by the IRS, so I’m wondering If I can apply for SSI benefits or create my SSA online account, If you don’t have SSN?

    Thank you.

    • Ann C.

Hi, Karisha.  Unfortunately, your question is a bit more complex than we can answer in this forum. For your security, we do not have access to private information in this venue. We ask that members in our Blog community work with our offices with specific questions. You can call us at 1-800-772-1213, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., for assistance. You can also contact your local Social Security office. We hope this helps.

My address on my benefit verification letter has changed to a address that I have never lived at this is very stressful for me as I have to use this for proof of income for my housing and it has to be the correct address.

    • Ann C.

Hi, Lesa. We are sorry to hear that. If you are receiving Social Security retirement or disability, you can create a personal my Social Security account to change your address online. If you are receiving Supplemental Security Income, you should contact your local Social Security office immediately. We hope this helps.

On the new Update Direct Deposit page, there is an option to use automated phone assistance to edit details about your bank account.

Does the SSA currently offer 24-hour automated assistance to change direct deposit information? Or will this be a new service? If it will be a new service, when will it be available?

    • Ann C.

Hi, Sarah. Thanks for your questions. The automated telephone service currently does not include direct deposit changes but we hope to include it in the future. Thanks, again.

Can you explain why a person receiving a spousal benefit, is unable to view the person’s own benefit, if/when they plan to change to their own benefit schedule…or at 70 1/2 ?

The Social Security Statement indicates one must call the SS Office, so that the spouse’s record can be evaluated. Assuming SSA already knows the spouse from whom the benefit is being calculated, wouldn’t the web page be able to access that spousal record, and do the calculated future benefit?

How webmasters justify their existence at YOUR expense! Isn’t it nice when you visit a familiar website you can easily navigate because you have used it for so long you instinctively know where you want to go? You do what you want and can move quickly because you’ve done it so many times it has become like the neighborhood you live in. You have favorite locations you visit regularly and others you bypass because they aren’t applicable to your goal. You navigate your cyber neighborhood with ease!
Then one day you return and some arrogant lunatic has shuffled all the buildings around! Repainted them all in different colors, renamed all the streets, and created new address numbers! You can not find your friend’s houses or your favorite shops because the inconsiderate, thoughtless meddler has so completely transformed the entire neighborhood that you can not even find your own home! This is what happens when a webmaster redesigns a website in an attempt to justify their continued employment!

OH GREAT! Another government site being “improved” beyond all usability for the consumer! First the VA took their workable site and turned it into a goat fornication! Now SSI! We seniors get used to something and are easily befuddled by UNNECESSARY change. Especially those like me that suffer from military service connected brain injury!

Trying to get answers from this agency has been a nightmare. The online information or request is never returned. I ‘ve been waiting on an answers from SSA on my benefits for 3 months. I have visited the local office 3 times and have had numerous conversations with the agency, still no answers. It appears the payment center is out of the loop. Information was submitted to the SSA and the payment center is still sending out determination forms stating they have not received the documents. I have written everyone I could contact, it is impossible to contact management. Something should be done immediately when the customer is in limbo on the solution and this is a customer who has received spousal benefits for 7 years.

    • Ann C.

Hi, Brenda. We are sorry to hear about your experience. You can submit feedback by visiting our Contact Social Security page. Once there, select the “Email Us” link. This will take you to the “Email A Question to our Support Team” form where you can complete and submit a compliment, complaint, or suggestion. We hope this helps.
