Appeal Your Non-Medical Decisions Online

You no longer need to visit our offices or call us to appeal a denial or adverse action related to your benefits. Beginning December 10, 2016, you can file an appeal online for non-medical issues, even if you live outside the United States. Examples of non-medical appeals include those for overpayments and Medicare premium rates.

The online appeals application is simple, convenient, and secure; it guides you through every step of the process. From outlining your rights to an appeal, to publications on the appeals process, a fair review of your case is right at your fingertips. The online application also lets you upload supporting documentation and save your submission.

Submitting your appeal and necessary documents online will save time and can help expedite the decision. Here are some things you’ll need when you’re ready to submit an appeal:

  • Notice date or receipt from Social Security that explains what adverse action you wish to appeal; and
  • Supporting documentation you wish to add to your request for appeal.

    I just received the letter with the new monthly benefits amount for 2021. This amount is 34.00 less than my monthly benefits in 2021. In the letter I am to receive a 1.3% increase. Why the 34.00 difference? please reply.

    I would like see if I am able to get a new decision on my IRMMA monthly costs since it was based on 2019 when I retired and my income has dramatically changed. Who do I contact?

      Hi Christopher, thank you for using our blog. To determine if you’ll pay higher premiums, Social Security uses the most recent federal tax return the IRS provides to us. If you must pay higher premiums, we use a sliding scale to make the adjustments, based on your modified adjusted gross income (MAGI). Your MAGI is your total adjusted gross income and tax-exempt interest income.

      To report a Medicare Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount Life-Changing Event, complete and return the form to your local Social Security office. We hope this helps.

    I received a denial for my social security. I cannot supply a certified copy of my birth certificate England did no certify birth certificates. I do not know what I need to send for the 2005 self employment as I was not self employed. I have called the local office several times and have not received a call back, if they did call they did not leave a message.

    I am making this Appeal for my son who is profoundly deaf and bling in one eye and works at a sheltered workshop. My name is Philip Gaffney *** – ** – ***, 85 years old and probably not much longer on this world. My son is Russell A. Gaffney *** – ** – ***, 55 and draws Social Security. On the last one of his Benefit Amount Notice it shows his Monthly Amount is $536.60, Medicare deducts $143.60, no other amounts are deducted. Yet, of the $393.00 remaining he receives $208.00. Our question is where or what is the other $185.00 deduction. This $185.00 has been deducted for several years, we just want to know, why it is being deducted and for what. If you can give me an answer so I can explain it t him and why isn’t it identified?

    Why is my SS benefits so low?

      Hi Juan, thanks for using our blog. Social Security benefits are calculated by using your work history. For example, a Social Security retirement benefit is calculated by using your highest 35 years of earnings. If you do not have 35 years of earnings, we will use all of the earnings on your record and factor in an annual total of $0.00 earnings for each of the remaining years.

      Check out our Explore the Benefits You May Be Due web page to find out if you, or a family member, might be eligible for a benefit based on another person’s work, or a higher benefit based on your own work. You can also use the Benefit Eligibility Screening Tool (BEST) to find out if you could get benefits that Social Security administers. Based on your answers to questions, this tool will list benefits for which you might be eligible and tell you more information about how to qualify and apply. We hope this is helpful.

    I recieved a letter of o repayment from ssi and I want a waiver or appeal and they said I could do it online because I cannot download paperwork and all offices are working remotely and can not send papers to me…what should I do???

    I have not as of today received my raise of 1.6% from $1883.00 to $1907.00 which was supposed to start 11/5/2020. Did I not get the difference or is it all put on hold.
