Is my social security income the same as retirement benefits?
This new on-line format is not helpful. I could not find the formula that I previously could find which enabled me to calculate how much I would receive in benefits if I stop working (retire) at age 62, but wait to take my SS benefits until I reach my full retirement age of 66 and 4 months. How do I find that formula on your new on-line website? And, why has it been and why does it remain SO difficult to find this information? Is the fed govt forcing us to take SS at age 62 out of sheer frustration?
And, has it occurred to you that everyone who has commented above (including me) was completely unaware that they were communicating with THE WORLD. I thought you were allowing me to send a message to you, and you alone. I was expecting a personal response. Fortunately, I have not shared any personal information (current age, address, DOB, SS#, anticipated benefits). You should be mindful of this, and advise folks to be discreet BEFORE communicating with you by this manner. NOTE: I send electronic messages to Pres. Trump. He/his staff, have been very responsive. I’ll share my comments with him about this site.
Hi Tracey. You can use one of our benefit Calculators. Which calculator you choose depends on what you want do. In your case you may need to use our Early or Late Retirement Calculator.

Just thought would mention that the subject about putting personal info on this social venue is not good idea and they also mention that they do not have access o your personal info and then direct people to contact the SSA they even say they do not respond to the person privately. It was these comments that saved me from putting my info and just calling the SSA.
Thanks
Good Evening,
I have applied for Disability 2015. I had my hearing on August 28th, 2017 in Washington County, Maryland. I was told that I would hear or have a decision within 30-60 days. I have not heard anything as of yet. I am wondering what is possibly may be going on with my case. I call the number for the Social Security Administration and however, all I hear is they still have not made a decision as of yet. I am tired of calling and trying to speak with someone and hearing “Oh, they have not made a decision as of yet”. How long does it really take? It’s almost the first of the year and everyday I am expecting a phone call or letter; and I hear nothing. I even tried to reach someone with the Office of Administrative Hearings and was referred back to the main number for the Social Security Administration. I am a very sick person dealing with heart issues. And I have no income for myself. I would like to know what’s going on.
If you are granted SSDI in another state, and then move to Florida, can you lose Social Security benefits in Florida? Does Florida have different rules for SSDI (from other states)? Has Florida’s SSDI benefits changed and/or are they different from other states? Are mental health issues acceptable reason to receive SSDI benefits (if all requirements for receiving SSDI benefits are met and earned)?

I was granted benefits starting in September, with the first payment in October. However, the system will not accept any changes to either address or bank info. I’ve went into our local social security office twice, going in again today, but it’s been three months and they say they have a known system problem with some people not being able to update address or bank info. It’s not been 3 months and I would like to know if there is a special help department that I can contact. No one seems to be able to help other than say, “Sorry”. Thank you,
Hello Terry. If you are having difficulties with your personal my Social Security account, please call 1-800-772-1213 for assistance. After you hear “Briefly tell me why you are calling,” say “Help Desk” for help with a my Social Security account. Thanks!
I ended up going into our local office after waiting for an hour on the phone and not getting anybody. The good news is that the guy I talked to there pulled up my account and right away saw that I had not been getting payments for several months. He got his supervisor involved, and he/she was going to personally talk to the computer folks and get the system fixed. In additional, they issued a ‘critical’ payment since no payments have been going through for almost 3 months. This is going to take a ton of pressure off me and I’m glad I went into the office and found someone who listened to me and didn’t tell me to just wait longer. Thank goodness I was able to get that type of help today.
Hi Terry. We’re pleased we were able to help. Your thoughts are important to us and we’re pleased when feedback is positive. Thank you for sharing!
My Social Security checks have had the same net amount for 2015,2016,2017 and 2018,even though the gross amount before deductions was incrementally increased. The two middle years showed no increase but 2015 claimed a 1.7% and 2018 claimed a 2.0% 1ncrease,yet 2018 shows NO increase. I tried to call but had to leave after 40 minutes on hold. Please respond.
Hello Dominick. We’re sorry that you had difficulty reaching someone by phone. We may have been experiencing higher than normal call volume.

Thank you.
Sincerely.
Please visit our web page: “How can I change or sign up for direct deposit for my Social Security payments?” Thanks!
The 2% raise we supposedly got has left me with less money. It was my understanding that medicare would be raised to $109 instead $125. My gross check is only $965 and with the 2018 income my net amount is only $819.60. It was hard enough to live on $823 before. I am 82 years old and on no medication thank God. I worked all my life too and when my husband passed I lost the social security I had paid in. Please inform me why I am paying $125 for medicare.
Unfortunately, but for security reasons, we do not have access to personal records in this blog. You can call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213 and ask one of our agents to assist you. I need a change of address from Kenner,La. to Slidell,La.
I’ve tried and tried to get on-line with Social Security, but to no avail. I get a notice that they want me to go paperless, NO CAN DO!! IT WON’T LET ME!!!
Then I tried to call someone and try to get help, NOPE, nothing there either. So I guess I will waste earthly resources and have them send me a tree every three months. I think this whole thing is a scam.
It’s pretty bad when you can’t even get the right department while on the phone. Transffered 3 or 4 times and then “CLICK”. All done! Well as for me….all done as well.

Did I misunderstand or were we to receive new “safer” SS cards?
Hi Lyn, you’re probably referring to “new” Medicare cards. The Medicare program, including Medicare cards, is managed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
How do I change my address? Also my last name will be changing soon through a divorce. How do I do that?
Hello Christine, if you get Social Security benefits or are enrolled in Medicare, you can change your address online by using a my Social Security account. Also, if you receive benefits, you are required to report a change in marital status.
Of course we can update your records and even process a request for a replacement Social Security card, at your local Social Security office. To learn more on the process and what documents you will need to get a card, please visit our “Social Security Number and Card” web page.
Please call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213 for further assistance. Representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Thanks!

Thanks for your comment about how you should look for a social security lawyer that offers your retirement benefits. I also like how you said that they should help you with taxes too. My husband and I are trying to help my grandparents find a good social security lawyer for their case; thanks for the post. https://www.hickslawoffice.com/social-security-disability
Need papers so I can switch name from married to maiden. Got a divorce. Phone number 715-898-1673. Mailing address is 509 West Arnold Street Marshfield WI, 54449
Hi, Margaret. In order to change your name on your Social Security card, you must show us a document that proves your legal name change. If the document you provide as evidence of a legal name change does not give us enough information to identify you in our records, you must show us an identity document in your old name (as shown in our records). It is the identity document (also known as your ID) that we will accept if it has expired, however, we still will need to see proof (legal document) of the name change. We offer the option to mail your completed application with original or certified documents to your local Social Security office. Visit our Frequently Asked Questions for more information and to determine which documents you may need. Or, you can go to your local office to make the changes. Just a reminder – please be cautious about posting personal information on social media. We hope this helps!

We are sorry for the inconvenience, Zilda. The “my Social Security” authentication system requires address verification as one of the essential criteria for issuing/accessing an account. My 28 year old son has been on SSI since he was is 6th grader. After suffering a severe stroke 2007 he is still recovering at home . Since he’s been totally disabled over half his life but completely these past 11 years, is he eligible for Medicare since it’s been over 24 months he’s been ill?
Angela, thank you for your question. SSI recipients are eligible for Medicaid and Social Security disability beneficiaries qualify for Medicare after receiving benefits for 2 years.
If your son was disabled before the age of 22, he may be eligible for child’s benefits if he has a parent that’s deceased or starts receiving retirement or disability benefits. We consider this a “child’s” benefit because it is paid on a parent’s Social Security earnings record.
The “adult child”—including an adopted child, or, in some cases, a stepchild, grandchild, or step grandchild—must be unmarried, age 18 or older, have a disability that started before age 22, and meet the definition of disability for adults.
There is nothing telling you how to find out what is going on with your application. For example, I was approved for benefits way back in September. I was supposed to begin receiving benefits the first week in November but there is no information about the process, etc. And you simply can’t reach a representative online or by phone. You used to be able to leave a callback number if the waiting list was too long. Apparently that is no longer an option.
My SS check has been lowered approx. five years ago,I was never informed as to the reasons why. My SS no. is *** – ** – *** Prices have gone up sky high but instead of an increase I got a decrease in pay.I am on a special diet due to toxins and cannot afford any of the things I need medically. Please assist me ASAP. Thank you.
Thank you for contacting us, Judyann. Unfortunately, and because of security reasons, we do not have access to personal records in this blog and cannot assist you.

I seemed to have lost my 2018, 1099 form I received from. Where and how can I get duplicate copies?
I will be 62 Dec. 28, 2019. I am on SS disability and I would like to know if I am entitled to any spousal benefits?
Hi, Judy. Thank you for your question. To qualify for spouse’s benefits, your husband must be receiving retirement or disability benefits. Also, when you qualify for Social Security benefits on your own record, we pay that amount first. But if you also qualify for a higher amount as a spouse, you’ll get a combination of benefits that equals that higher amount. Visit our Retirement Planner: Benefits For You As A Spouse for more information. For specific questions, please call us at 1-800-772-1213, Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., for assistance. Generally, you will have a shorter wait if you call later in the day. You can also contact your local Social Security office. We hope this helps.
Please respond to my question that I have tried to get answered all year. I withdrew a ONE time funds from my IRA account in 2017 to purchase a condo for my son. Unaware that not only the 10% and tax bracket change penalty but also would incur further reduction on my monthly SS for a said one year. This being a one time event, will my monthly SS automatically go back to the previous after this year or do I have to report it in some form? This was not a work related income but my own money for a one time withdrawal. Please respond and advice on what I need to do. Thank you kindly!
