Hi I am needing to replace my daughter’s SScard she is under 18. Can I do this on line.

    • Ann C.

Hi, Missy. Thanks for your question. You cannot apply for a child’s card online. Generally, when applying for a replacement Social Security card for a child under the age of 18, we consider the parent(s) or step-parent with custody, as the proper applicant. Also realize you may not need a replacement card for your daughter. Knowing her number is what is important. You will rarely need to show her card, but if you need information on how to obtain a replacement Social Security card, visit our Frequently Asked Questions. You will need to present documents proving your identity, your children’s identities and citizenship status (if not already established), and evidence of your relationship to, or responsibility for, your children. Also keep in mind the submitted documents must be originals. You can use birth certificates to prove your children’s age or citizenship. But you cannot use it as proof of identity. We hope this helps.

Okay so I never got my son’s social security card and it’s been over a year. they had told me I was going to get it a month after he was born but I got nothing. So then I called to office and they told me that it was my fault and that I was going to have to be there or send my husband’s and my I’d, our social security cards and our birth certificates in the mail. I know this is wrong for them to ask us for us to send our stuff in the mail I’m tired I’ve been trying everything I can but I haven’t had any luck. We need to get his social security card but this is making it hard I need help and I need it now.

    • Ann C.

Hi. If you applied for a Social Security card and have not received it, you will need to contact the local Social Security office where you applied to check the status. You’ll need to bring all of the original documents that you provided to us. We cannot help you with this over the phone. We hope this is resolved soon.
